Musclenerd has announced that as predicted the iPad 2 is not susceptible to Limera1n.

iPad2 bootrom version iBoot-838.3 means it was compiled March'10. Seems geohot guessed right: limera1n was already closed

Also, it looks like Apple has blocked SHAtter as well.

Early testing also seems to show at least one thing SHAtter depends on was gone by March 2010 too :(

For those hoping to jailbreak their new iPads this likely means that any early iPad 2 jailbreaks will have to be userland jailbreaks.

Spirit is the latest example of a userland jailbreak. While it is super easy for users, p0sixninja noted some of the disadvantages of this type of jailbreak.

"The only problem with this method of jailbreaking is it can be easily patched by Apple in the next firmware update. Also, since the exploit being used resides in userland, you're denied access to many of the low level hardware features, including the ability to decrypt firmware keys. iBoot exploits, on the other hand, are much lower level and offer much more freedom to interact directly with the system unrestricted."

I guess this is a bit of a win for Apple engineers...they fixed both holes long before either exploit was developed.

The hunt is on for the first workable exploit and we will let you know as soon as one is found!

I am accustomed with iPhone Factory Unlock since iPhone 3G, 3Gs and now iPhone 4. It means the iPhones are not subsidized and much more expensive. But I do need jailbreaking for some unavailable functions in official App Store, such as SBsettings, Infinifolders, iBlacklist, iFile and MyWi (which now is not necessary as iOS 4.3 allows Personal Hotspot already). I paid those Cydia apps.

I've jailbroken every iOS device I've ever had, and plan to do the same with the iPad 2. Yet I have no pirated apps. Occasionally, I've tried a pirated app if it's expensive and I want to see if it works as advertised, but then either I don't want it or I end up paying for it because it's simply not worth the hassle of dealing with upgrades, let alone because it's the right thing to do. There are tons of reasons to jailbreak an iOS device. And I've also purchased many apps via Cydia that are only available on jailbroken devices. Mostly though I jailbreak for full access to my device, ability to do customizations and tweaks. I've never had the desire to unlock an iOS device.

hmm this possible way for them to have another excused why they are not going to release new jailbreak or unlock for iphone lol.. if this is true... then I know for sure these hacker just having big mouth kekeke..

MN is working very hard on unlocking. Hope in 2 weeks the unlock is out, if not. sell the iphone for sure.

Chances are there won't be an unlock available for a very long time due to some recently discovered obstacles, making it nearly impossible.

The dev team never accepted donations in the first place so they don't need your money to work on the unlocks. Go buy a factory unlocked iPhone on eBay if you knew it is locked and stop blaming the dev team for the risk you decided to take

I remember when software hack groups like Radium and Oxygen were cracking everything possible... then Radium stop, had a change of heart or whatever... Then they all collectively came together to hack Cubase 5 which was thought to never be crackable. Then the scene died down and most ppl buy now... This will be the same thing for smartphone hack(er)s. Just my opinion
