Concluding a year of testing and refinement, Sheep Systems has announced that BookMacster has passed final testing with the release of version 1.2. This version supports automatic cross-browser bookmarks synchronization via the user's choice of file-syncing services in the cloud. It also rounds out BookMacster's web-browser support by adding iCab and Pinboard.

Dubbed "The bookmarks master for the Mac", BookMacster continues where other apps and services have left off. BookMacster merges and manages bookmarks in Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Camino, iCab, Opera and OmniWeb, and on the web with Delicious, Pinboard, and Google Bookmarks. When used with a file-syncing service in the cloud such as Dropbox or Jungle Disk, BookMacster takes cross-browser bookmark syncing on the road to any Mac. BookMacster keeps bookmarks alphabetized (sorted), verified, and checked for duplicates. BookMacster supports tags, comments, and shortcuts. BookMacster users can add bookmarks directly from within browsers, and access all bookmarks while in any app from the menu bar.

Bookmacster And Bookdog:
BookMacster is the replacement for Sheep Systems' legacy app, Bookdog. "You can only add a limited number of stories on to an old house," explains Chief Engineer Jerry Krinock. "It was time to move on." Bookdog licensees receive a discount when purchasing a BookMacster license.

Service-Agnostic Bookmarks Sync:
Syncing of bookmarks to other Macs does not require any special account or service. Users who already employ a file-syncing service in the cloud such as Dropbox(TM) or Jungle Disk(TM) can configure BookMacster to use their existing service with just a few clicks. "Rather than doing the syncing under the hood with a proprietary API, we decided to store data in regular files," Krinock explains. "These files can be synced, like any other file, by most of the emerging file-syncing services up there in the cloud. We added code to watch the file, some user-interface shortcuts to make setup easy, and voila - a service-agnostic bookmarks sync. We don't need to worry about what happens if our favorite syncing service doesn't survive the next market shake-out. And neither do our users."

Price and Availability:
Thoughtful of people whose Mac time sometimes gets interrupted by real life, BookMacster allows three activations of its 3-day free trial period. After the trial, a regular license may be purchased for $22.95 USD. The "store" is built into the application. If a Bookdog license is found on the user's computer, BookMacster sends it to Sheep Systems, providing an order form with the appropriate discount. A license key is downloaded and installed automatically upon purchase. Academic users qualify for a 33% discount, and complimentary licenses may be offered to reviewers, consultants, etc. upon request.
