Apple Shares Two New Apple Watch Stories on Heart Alerts and Fitness [Video]

Apple has shared two new 'True Apple Watch Story' videos, pairing a customer's account of a medical emergency with another's efforts to improve his fitness. The 35-second clips feature Morgan and Josh explaining how they used the watch's health and activity features.

Morgan says her Apple Watch woke her with alerts about an unusually high resting heart rate. The repeated notifications prompted her to seek medical care, where doctors diagnosed a kidney infection that had progressed to septic shock and treated her immediately. 'This thing helped save my life,' she says. The clip combines her interview with hospital images and footage of her life after treatment.

The watch's high heart rate notifications can alert wearers when their heart rate remains above a chosen threshold.

Josh's story opens with him describing the change in his life: 'I feel like this is life part two.' He says he weighed about 340 pounds and knew he needed to make a change, so he began using Apple Watch regularly and made closing his Activity Rings a daily goal. Comparing each day's progress with what he could do better the next turned fitness into a game. His interview is intercut with footage of him running and playing basketball.

The new clips join a series that featured Connor's account of using the ECG app in August. That reading led him to seek medical care, where doctors found a previously unknown heart condition requiring open-heart surgery.
