Apple Acquires Assets From AI Music Editing Startup Samplab
Apple has acquired assets from Samplab, the developer of AI-powered music editing tools, in a deal that also covers hiring some of its employees, according to a European Commission disclosure.

The entry, dated June 17, 2026, describes the purchase through an Apple subsidiary and employment offers to certain staff members. It does not disclose financial terms or identify which Apple products will use the technology.
Samplab let musicians work with recorded audio much as they would with MIDI, changing individual notes rather than simply cutting and moving a recording. Its archived website also highlighted chord detection and editing, MIDI export, and stem separation, which breaks a recording into separate parts for editing.
The software could match the tempo and key of different samples to help them work together, with controls for adapting chords, melodies, and drums. It was available as a standalone desktop app and as VST3 and Audio Unit plugins for use within music production software.
In a shutdown notice, the team said it had decided to "pursue a new opportunity." Support for existing users and the ability to upload new audio were scheduled to end on September 17. Customers with annual subscriptions extending beyond that date were offered refunds for the remaining balance.
The company also released a version that would allow users to continue working with existing projects. Eligible customers could download a fully offline version of its separate Resynthesizer tool, while former subscribers and trial users were offered a legacy version for their existing oneshots. The Samplab website now redirects to Apple's homepage.
A separate EU disclosure recently revealed Apple's AI audio deal with Huxe, a startup founded by former members of Google's NotebookLM team. That agreement covered a non-exclusive technology license and employment offers, rather than an outright acquisition.
