Liza 1.0 Measures Muscle Power

Exelio introduces Liza 1.0, their breakthrough athletic testing app for iPhone or iPod touch. Attaching the iPhone to a barbell, the voice-guided tests employ the iPhone's built-in accelerometer to accurately measure and compute muscle power. Different muscle groups can be tested, and the app will measure and track the power and speed values for each load, recording progress toward anticipated or targeted results. Liza stores data on multiple users, and displays various sets of measurements.

Different sports require development of particular muscle groups for unique functions. Ordinarily, the equipment required to prescribe sport-specific exercises on an individual basis is expensive and complex. Using the advanced computational and acceleration measuring hardware of the iPhone, combined with specially developed algorithms, Liza can provide invaluable measurements inexpensively and conveniently. Power training is designed to enable the athlete to produce the maximum percentage of their total strength in the shortest period of time. Liza can precisely measure and record an athlete's progress toward their training goals.

Attaching the iPhone to a barbell, the user is verbally guided through a series of half squats or bench presses at different loads or weights. The user can select the number of sets, and the default is four. The higher the number the more precise the result, the lower the number the less time and energy spent to execute the test. Liza can measure the performance of arm muscle groups using the bench press, or muscle groups of the legs using the squat. The two tests, half squat and bench press, can be run independently. Following the two tests, Liza uses the load, acceleration, and time measurements to calculate performance of specific muscle groups. The fitness trainer may use this data to help determine the optimal load in order to tune the training to achieve specific goals (rapid force, explosive force, dynamic force, or maximum force).

The values resulting from the placement and check tests performed by the application are: maximum power (W), load at maximum power (lbs), speed at maximum power (in/sec), value of 1RM (lbs) [one repetition maximum, estimated from the load/velocity relationship], maximum power in relation to body mass (W/lbs), and an integrated Liza Index that summarizes on a scale of 1 to 10 the result in relation to the characteristics of the user. All measurements may be preset for Metric or US System. Also user selectable are the number of sets per test (3-8), and the rest time between sets (30-120 sec).

Feature Highlights:
* Liza measures muscle performance
* Liza calculates performance using the iPhone's built-in accelerometer
* Ideal for professional athletes, amateur players, and casual players
* Stores data on multiple subjects over time
* Employs advanced algorithms to determine maximum power of muscles
* Replaces cumbersome, costly measurement devices
* Helps the fitness trainer by providing a snapshot of the athlete's condition
* Additional muscle tests in future updates

Liza includes an in-app User Guide that provides clear and complete instructions for mounting the mobile device and performing a protocol test. After testing, data is displayed numerically in a well-designed instrument panel. Data is also displayed in graph form, and the app allows quick graphical comparison of two tests performed at different times. Re-testing is recommended about once per month, and a statistical trend may be displayed. The app includes integrated email and Twitter connectivity.

"...A very useful tool for training in a precise way, periodically checking the progress of training...Through the calculation of the power output, done by Liza over the performed exercises, it is possible to define a quantitative workload that the athlete should be subjected to... it works well for the general preparation for most sports, using exercises involving specific muscle groups," Claudio Cucinotta, Professional Cyclist
