Apple is preparing a new Suggested Genmoji feature for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 that automatically creates custom emoji-style graphics based on users' photos and commonly typed phrases.
According to a newsletter from Mark Gurman to subscribers, the upcoming software update includes a new toggle within keyboard settings labeled "Suggested Genmoji." The setting's description notes that the suggestions will be generated using content from the user's photo library along with frequently typed phrases. The capability will remain optional, allowing people to disable the automated recommendations entirely.
The new functionality appears aimed at making Genmoji more visible and easier to use during everyday conversations. Rather than requiring users to manually describe a custom emoji each time, iOS 27 will proactively surface these creations directly from the keyboard interface.
Apple originally introduced Genmoji as part of Apple Intelligence in late 2024. The tool allows device owners to generate personalized emoji-style graphics using natural language prompts. Apple later expanded the system with support for merging standard emoji into custom designs.
The initial rollout was met with mixed reactions. Some early adopters criticized the generated artwork for inconsistent quality, while others reported increased battery drain and device heat during image generation. Since then, Apple has continued refining its generative tools through subsequent software updates.
