Apple Obtains iPad Trademark From Fujitsu

Apple has managed to obtain the iPad trademark from Fujitsu according to records at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

PatentAuthority notes that the original trademark (Serial No. 76497338) was filed by Fujitsu in March of 2003 for their iPad wireless handheld computing device used by retailers. Records now show that the trademark was assigned to Apple on March 17th.

Apple initiated opposition proceedings challenging the validity of the mark in September, filing three requests for extensions of time. Its not clear if it was cash or legal threats that convinced Fujitsu to relinquish the trademark.
