Apple has reportedly started allowing older iPod touch owners to upgrade to iPhone OS 3 for no charge.
The information comes via PocketGamer's Tracy Erickson,
Syncing a second generation iPod touch today with an older version of the software prompted me to accept the free upgrade. How exciting.
Just as when asked to download and install the latest firmware on an iPhone, iTunes simply asks for confirmation - no signing in to pay for the software.
If anyone can independently confirm this please let us know in the comments...
That is TRUE!!!
I actually updated my iPod Touch 8GB 1st Gen to 3.1.3 firmware about 10 days ago and I didn't have to pay. I thought it was strange since my brother had to pay to update his second generation iPod Touch to 3.1.2 (few months ago) and had to pay but I didn't.
