New Apple Developer Guideline Prohibits Third Party App Promotion

Posted October 1, 2012 at 4:40pm by iClarified
Apple's recently updated Developer Guidelines prohibits promotion of third party apps, notes PocketGamer.

The new clause reads as follows:

2.25 Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected

It appears that Apple could use this guideline to restrict apps whose sole purpose is to recommend other apps or make it easier to search for apps.

Jordan Satok, founder of AppHero, tells TechCrunch that he thinks apps that don't favor one over the other will still be okay.

"The whole point of the review guidelines is that Apple wants consumers to get the very best apps from the App Store, and they recognize that if it gets filled with garbage, discovery gets even worse, and that just hurts the platform," Satok said in an interview. "I see all of these changes as just trying to help consumers find the very best stuff, and it's trying to go after services that are just the blatant app promotion services. App Hero was created with the goal of helping consumers find the very best apps out there."

Over time Apple's intentions with regard to this guideline should become clearer.

No I Read just fine. Talk about being disrespectful. Why don't you have a closer read. I was using this article as a Segway to what apple did promoting third party maps. Why don't you consider all scenarios before you start commenting.

That's some bulls since Tim Cook did just that a couple of days ago. He went and promoted 3rd party apps for maps.
