The iPhone Dev-Team has announced a baseband downgrade from the iPad's 06.15 baseband on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.
Typically you'd have the 06.15 baseband if you unlock with ultrasn0w but updated your iPhone baseband past 05.13.04. With this new capability, you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before). This gives you the best of both worlds: ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.
Steps: 1. Use the "Extras->Select IPSW" button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn't hurt for them to do it too). 2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone ("slide to power off"). This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running! 3. Go back to the first screen and click "Jailbreak". Enable the "Downgrade from iPad baseband" checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.
Note: The "Flashing Baseband" step TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete (3-8 minutes).
For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is "yes" for 3G owners, and "maybe" for 3GS owners. The iPad baseband is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later. If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!
RedSn0w will be updated to offer the new feature within the hour. You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS to be notified of release.
Update: RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 has now been released. You can download it from here. Tutorials to follow shortly.
It worked for me..!!! I have 3gs - couple of months ago upgraded to BB 6.15 to do manual unlock/jailbreak.. Afterward AT&T started accepting unlock request and my request was granted. I wanted to do official unlock but after doing backup/restore with itune for 6.0.1 my phone was waiting for activation. It always give me message insert SIM card. I figured out that it was not able to understand SIM. Took it to at&t/apple - noone helped. At last I found this article and downgraded BB and what next... It worked great..it finished unlock process from apple and now my iphone is officially unlocked.. Thans very much to iclarified.com...!!!
wow this actually worked! i had a 3gs iPad baseband completely bricked and constantly rebooting every 5 to 10 mnts, and wifi and bluetooth blank and when going on settings the firmware was blank as well, i stopped trying a couple of months ago due to multiple tries but no luck, long story short i noticed this was out, i tried it TWICE and it worked!!!! i think you gotta try it twice because in order for the downgrade to work there has to be a firmware showing on the about section in the settings, so when doing it the first time it flashes it and the second time it fixes it and downgrades..... thank u muscleNerd!!!!! good luck everyone!
same problem here, i have a 3gs running 4.1 unlocked through ultrasn0w with baseband 6.15.00 and all i get is " the connected device does not support untethered options"
So yeah someone please let me know on what can be done. And another question, do you have to uninstall ultrasn0w before trying this process to downgrade basebands?!
Mine doesn't work either. Restored to fresh "custom" 5.1.1, switched off, ran redsnow with downdrade enable.....still at 06.15. Now ultrasnow/ultrasnow 5.1.1 fix doesn't work either. It's a new bootrom phone btw.
This is how it worked for me (3gs 5.1.1 bb 6.15). I made a new custom ipsw with sn0wbreeze (a non updating bb) and keep it at my desktop. Then I used redsn0w to downgrade bb as explained everywhere (tried 3 or 4 times until I got it). At this point I got a mess at my iphone but bb is downgraded. Then I put it in dfu and restore it with the custom ipsw. Install ultrasn0w fix first and ultrasn0w later. It works, at least for me.
