I0n1c Posts Image of Jailbroken iPad 3 on iOS 5.1.1 [Photo]

Posted May 7, 2012 at 8:49pm by
Although he refuses to release his jailbreak publicly, I0n1c has posted an image of a jailbroken iPad 3 on the newly released iOS 5.1.1 firmware.

Pod2g has yet to comment on whether the new firmware closes any of the exploits he is using to develop his jailbreak. According to the hacker his jailbreak is using 5-6 exploits. "The kernel exploit is one of the 5-6 exploits needed to do a jailbreak. A puzzle of exploits."

I don't know but why is i0n1c not releasing the jailbreak for iPad 3 on iOS 5.1.1 if this continue the way it's going looks like the public donations to any jailbreak hacker will get lower and lower, and finally the fun is over

Well all I know is too bad we lost comex. He was d 1 who was responsible for many previous jailbreaks. Some on his own too with no team. Apple is fast at recruiting. But weird that they only offered him internship n not even a real position. Why would he take a small position n left his super hero status in the jailbreak community. Maybe we need to organize a donation fund n find a way to send it to these guys.

Do you think i0n1c's behavior regarding these teasers is helpful to the community? If he doesn't want to release the jailbreak that's fine, but why tease everyone who can't do what he is able to do?

Nope, not related in the slightest. His behavior is what it is. He makes no claim whatsoever that he has a program that you or I could use to jailbreak our phones. He claims to have an exploit that an extremely skilled iOS programmer (such as himself) could use to jailbreak their own phone. If he were to release the details of that exploit, very few of us would be able to jailbreak our phone. That is why a third party has, in the past, written a turnkey program to actually perform the jailbreak. At this time, no third party has deigned to write such a program for 5.1. Why not? Is it because nobody knows what exploit he is using? Possible, but not very likely. In truth, it is that lack of a third party which is the problem for us, not i0n1c. He has never written such programs and I don't expect that he will now either. Nevertheless, what is really crazy is the belief on the part of many people that they are entitled to such a turnkey program. I can't for the life of me understand such an attitude. Am I entitled to use their iPhone, if I can't afford my own?

It seems i0nic prefers selling his jailbreaks 250k each time to the grugq rather than sharing ... This is his choice and we have nothing to say about that. However, releasing picture of jailbroken idevice, saying, "hey, I have a jailbreak but you don't" is really ridiculous and useless ... Like if he was in kindergarden ! I0nic is now the "mathieulh" of the IOS scene ... And when I see what PS3 scene has become thanks to mathieulh, i am very cocerned about IOS scene ... Soon we will have no other option than buying a Galaxi SIII ...

He would likely receive many donations if he released it. I wish I knew how to develop these tools! I would release one every time a firmware comes out. I really respect Geohot; he wasn't selfish. If it wasn't for the jailbreak I wouldn't buy an iPhone. I have an iPhone 4S on 5.1 and it feels limited without a jailbreak.

Haters, before you start: I'm on 5.1 tethered and factory unlocked. I don't have an 4s nor iPad I have to say that this is just showing off. It's okay, you worked hard and you jailbroke your device, but I think showing off knowing that everyone is waiting for it it's not right. I miss 2.X, when we had plenty of ways to jailbreak, downgrade and unlock *sigh*

Me too. I have a 4s paper. No way to activated far less jailbreak and unlock. I missed the SAM unlock because I couldn't activate. I miss the good ole' days of iPhone hacking

Reading these thread, some of you are right, I think apple is involved in some way leaking out info to the so call hackers and think some of the new iOS features, has already appeared on the cydia tweaks long time ago, "who is helping who then" and if there was no such thing as jailbreaking, would you buy an apple product, mmmmmm, and I don't think aple would last That long as they did, anyway the whole downloadable app thing, cydia started it and long came apple and stole it

I think he's just saving the exploits for iOS 6 so that Apple don't shut them down, it pretty sensible as JB-ing iOS 6 will be even tougher they can do with all the exploits they can get. So stop getting so hyper about it, your life doesn't depend on it. believe me you'll will be happier with a quicker iOS 6 JB.

Viewing all these coments you we can all conclude that apple finally won dividing the jb comunity. Its a real shame how apple indirectly beat the cat and mouse game

Has i0n1c ever released a jailbreak tool publicly? Some are saying he is just spoofing the version in Cydia.

I0n1c gave his untether for iOS 4.3.1 to the iPhone Dev-Team for release. It was also used for 4.3.x firmwares after that. He's definitely not a liar.

You're right. It is very apparent from the comments that nobody needs (nor wants) I0n1c's Jailbreak. Very astute observation.

How about musclenerd? In the beginning when the 4s got released he was pretty active with the jailbreak, now it's like he's only updating news about jailbreak process. Why is he losing interest for it already. I say these guys stop with the we don't need money kinda thing n start charging 1 dollar per jailbreak software. Could of made them millions of dollars already, that would be a good motivation for more hackers to join as well. Especially for the carrier unlock. I'm down to pay too but there's none

Why are they hiding it! Give us the jailbreak we are waiting for! My new iPad feels limited without it.

Let him keep the jailbreak for Himself or sell it he can make money, and apple will loose all its share soon if they continue blocking jailbreaker. because soon market share will be to open source stuff like ANDROID, GUYS GO ANDROID ALL THE WAY, and kiss apple iphone and tablet goodbye :) i sold all my apple portable devices because i can not jailbreak and use hombrew apps.

If android is so open and has complete freedom then why do users need to root their devices? Rooting for android is like jailbreaking for ios devices. The only difference is its a lot more complicated to root an android device compared to jailbreaking an iOS device even though there are more methods to root than jailbreak. Fail!

If Samsung get their own os, then it's not rip apple, it's rip for both Samsung n google. Samsung os will take some android users, a cut in revenue n users for android, but many current Samsung users would not like Samsung new os, n they will switch to other phones that use android, most likely a split in samsung n android would benefit apple iOS. However, the possibility of Samsung developing their own os is none. They don't got that ability, that's y they simply come to google for android.

Look dude..sorry...man... I think these guys are great. I am very grateful for the tools they produce. I was simply asking why is the site glorifying someone's exploit when that person has no intention of actually using it and benefitting the community. I didn't bash him for his work or his troubles I just asked why tell us? Why show us? What's the intention if you don't plan to share. For ego, attention. Simple as that. Man.

@Goody - the benefit of posting I0n1c's work is that it demonstrates that a jailbreak is possible. If there are any others out there with mad skills, this can represent an important hurdle to overcome. KNOWING that an exploit is possible, not just HOPING, can make it just a little bit easier to accomplish a task. If I0n1c chooses not to release, then so be it. At least this increases the chance that someone else will accomplish the task.
