Apple has had its plans for an employee only off-campus restaurant approved by the Cupertino Planning Commission, reports TNW.
The new 21,468 sq ft restaurant which is located a short walk from Apple Infinite Loop headquarters is being built to provide employees with a place to eat and discuss company plans and products without fear of being overheard by competitors.
Speaking to the planning commission, Dan Whisenhunt, Apple's director of real estate facilities, said:
"We like to provide a level of security so that people and employees can feel comfortable talking about their business, their research and whatever project they're engineering without fear of competition sort of overhearing their conversations.
That is a real issue today in Cupertino because we've got other companies here in our same business."
Apple expects to serve 228 people per hour during its lunchtime peak and says it will be able to double that number if needed. Unlike the on-campus cafeteria the new restaurant will not allow guests.
Reality Distortion Field strikes again!.........They are not building a restaurant, they are building a cafeteria. They have outgrown Caffe Macs and this new cafeteria will handle the overflow from their other buildings that don't have a cafeteria........Thenextweb.com rewrites an article they read somewhere else and changes the facts "...the new restaurant will not allow guests." But nowhere in the original article from The San jose Mercury News does it say that.
