Court Rules Distributors Should Stop Selling iPad in China

On Friday, the Intermediate People's Court in Huizhou, a city in southern China's Guangdong province, ruled that distributors should stop selling iPads in China, according to Xie Xianghui, a lawyer for Shenzhen Proview Technology.

The AP notes that this ruling may not have far reaching effects as Apple still has an appeal pending in mainland China with the Guangdong's High Court.

"We bought Proview's worldwide rights to the iPad trademark in 10 different countries several years ago. Proview refuses to honor their agreement with Apple in China and a Hong Kong court has sided with Apple in this matter," said Apple spokeswoman Carolyn Wu.

Apple's law firm in Beijing, King & Wood, has sent a letter to Proview's chairman Rowell Yang accusing the company of breaching "principles of good faith and fair dealing" and of making "false and misleading" statements.

Proview is asking regulators to seize iPads in the country in what is likely a prelude to demanding a $2 billion payout from Apple. A Shanghai court is set to hear a similar case on Wednesday.

Apple's evidence in its case against Proview has recently leaked online. You can see it here.
