Saurik has announced that an update to the Corona Untethered Jailbreak has been released in Cydia.
The update fixes issues for iBooks and launchd and it's recommended that users who previously jailbroke their A4 devices install the Corona package from Cydia.
Corona (5.0.1 untether) 1.0-4 is now out: users of redsn0w or the older packages should install. This fixes both iBooks and launchd (again).
You can find instructions on how to install Corona here.
Weird effect after installing Corona, the Maps app fails.
I installed Corona 1.0-5 on an iPhone 4. The iPhone had previously been jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.10b3, preserving baseband 01.59.00.
Good news: the Corona install made iBooks work.
Bad news: the Corona install made Maps fail. Even after rebooting the iPhone (multiple times), pressing the Maps icon resulted in a brief moment while Maps was presumably loading, but then it reverted back to the home screen.
I uninstalled Corona in Cydia which un-jailbroke the phone. :-O
Luckily, re-jailbreaking is easy; I simply again ran redsn0w 0.9.10b3 (unchecking Cydia since it was already installed), and Maps again worked (although iBooks is again not working).
I am not sure if this affects people who did NOT create the custom IPSW used to preserve baseband. And I am not sure that even people who jailbroke they way I did will experience the Maps app failure. But, this is a warning.
I have the same problem and i do NOT have custom firmware installed. Mail.app crashes shortly after launch. iBooks works (even the just released iBooks 2). My iPhone 4 is officially unlocked & currently jail-broken with Corona 1.0-5. I haven't tried 2 re-jailbreak using Redsnow 0.9.10b4 yet & i am not sure if i need to. Any help would be appreciated.
@Joey, I would suggest you do not re-jailbreak using b4, as it contains the new Corona code that seems to be causing the problem with Maps. Instead, use the old b3. It takes less than 15 minutes, fortunately, as you don't need to create or restore the IPSW file, just jailbreak the device, which already has all the right files on it.
@Mark: I got the issue fixed by uninstalling "Dashboard for Maps" tweak which I had installed, please uninstall that (if you have it) & any Maps related cydia tweaks & let me know if that fixes the issue for you :-) also, I did not re-jailbreak using b3 as that would not fix my iBooks issue. Hope this helps.
@Joey, good sleuthing! In fact, Dashboard for Maps IS installed. I think that is more useful than iBooks for my wife (as this is her phone), so I'll take the tradeoff, but that is very interesting. I'll contact the author of Dashboard for Maps and refer him to this thread, maybe he can fix the app so it is compatible with the new Corona. Thanks!
Mark
You might need to Run this as long iBooks is not Fixed. Redsnow is nut currently updated with this Fixed on Corona. I confirm this is working Corona iOS 5.0.1 v 1.0-5. corona already been updated.
BTW, I use Redsnow to JB my iphone
When redsn0w gets updated, do I just run that again on my phone? like re-jailbreak? and if so, does that mess with my current jailbreak apps or anything?
I don't think if still needed to Re-run Redsnow if iBooks and Lunchctl was already fixed. As this issue is only small portion of the JB on iOS 5.0.1 nnless there was major problem for JB.
Oh well... I ran this and I could no longer get into ibooks which I had ran the fix for.
I removed it and now my phone just keeps rebooting...
how do you get out of this loop?
Ok, was able to get into DFU and use redsnow to trick it into booting tethered and get out of the loop since it reloaded things.
But ibooks is still farked...
Guess I should have left well enough alone...
This is really works, It's already update Corona 1.0-5.. IBooks is now Fixed. You might want to try use Tiny Umbrella or Redsnow to get out on recovery loop, then update again with Corona on Cydia....
