Apple Store Employees Can See In-Store Location of Customer Picking Up an Order

Apple Store employees can now see the in-store location of a customer who has come to pick up an order, using an internal iPod touch application, reports the New York Times.

The Times was shown the application by Diego Aguirre, an Apple Store employee.

An iPhone owner can use the free Apple Store app to shop before entering the store. When she arrives, the app's location feature alerts store workers on their iPhones, and they can find her and bring over her purchases. Sixteen customers used the app's location feature to claim gear at the Palo Alto store on Friday, Mr. Aguirre said.

Customers seeking assistance in-store can access a similar feature where pressing a button on an iPad display will notify a representative that you need assistance. The request is shown to employees via their iPod touch, giving them the option to reply or locate the customer via an illustration of the shopping floor that highlights the customer's location in red.
