T-Mobile CMO Posts Letter to Customers About the iPhone

Posted September 27, 2011 at 5:21pm by iClarified
After confirming that T-Mobile would not be getting the iPhone, Cole Brodman, Chief Marketing Officer of T-Mobile USA posted a letter to customers about the device.

---
We've heard from many customers who love their T-Mobile service, but are disappointed that we don't carry the iPhone. To these customers, first, thank you for your business. Please know that we think the iPhone is a great device and Apple knows that we'd like to add it to our line-up. Today, there are over a million T-Mobile customers using unlocked iPhones on our network. We are interested in offering all of our customers a no-compromise iPhone experience on our network.

In the meantime, we continue to bring to market some of the most advanced, cutting-edge Android devices. Today, I had the chance to take the stage at the Mobilize event in San Francisco and introduce our fastest 4G smartphones ever, the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Amaze. We're very confident that these Android smartphones rival or beat any smartphone out there in terms of functionality, speed, overall experience and features - including the iPhone.

Functionality, speed and features - probably. But overall experience? Who is he kidding? Android phones seem like a cheap copy user experience wise.

This post made up my mind. I'm changing to Verizon or sprint as soon as the iPhone 5 comes out. Aloha tmobile.

Obviously it doesn't matter to me which carrier you use. However I'd mention to you that with ATT you can talk on the phone and use the internet at the same time. My brother cannot do that with Verizon and I don't know about sprint. It's a feature that I suppose doesn't matter to some, but I've found it to be useful on MANY occasions.

This is so lame! Firstly, they thought that ATT would finish them off so they don't have to face share holders for their lackluster performance. Now the CMO says there are faster Androids out there. It's very much of used-car salesman tactics: " I'm sure that X-brand is a very good vehicle indeed. But have you looked at this car we have here? All the specs of it point to a better performance and values. Why don't you take it out for a spin and the car will do all the talking for me. Then if you like it, we'll sweeten the 2yr-deal with easy financing."

The iphone is the best phone ever. The HTC or androi hace better thing but it dosent compare to the iphone i think they will have more sell if they put it on T- mobile and AT&T .

I was a tmobile customer for 6 1/2 years and had an iPhone running on edge hoping that for the past 3 years tmo was gonna get the iPhone. I was then talked into renewing my contract to get the mytouch 4g then the samsung vibrant. Both phones sucked. They lagged all the time. Would automatically delete my texts, phone would freeze up, battery life was horrible. This year I couldn't take it anymore and cancelled both lines went to AT&T and got the iPhone 4 for my wife and I. We haven't looked back since. I think it's a waste to pay for Internet service with tmobile and have an iPhone and running on edge.

Stupid comments like these are why I'm glad I switched over to AT&T for the iPhone last year.

i guess you are one of the few who like ATT for their Cust. service and cellular service. good for you.

So much for corporate loyalty, even on a unlock phone. This STINKS. The thought of living with Edge for another 3 years doesn't appeal to me. I really believe it's because of the relationship of ATT & Apple and ATT may have suggested to apple as to not offer to tmobile so they can consume them in a take over. thoughts??

Weren't ATT going to be taking over TMobile until a month or so ago when the move was blocked by congress or some government entity? I'm happy to be wrong on that but I think I'm right. Assuming I'm right for a second, and assuming that this iphone is coming out for multiple carriers not limited to ATT and Verizon, would it make sense that Apple didn't design the new iphone to work with TMobile because they were anticipating an ATT takover which would mean that TMobile customers interested in the iPhone would simply be switched over to ATT? or something like that? maybe I'm out of my mind though.

I actually liked T-Mo when I had them. I had to leave to get the iPhone on AT&T...
The Android

Obviously you all have never used an Android phone. After using an Android becuase my iPhone 4 was stolen, i can say having used both that Android is by far superior. the iPhone can't do less than half of what you can do with an Android. -Whatever iDoesn't, Droid Does

Like what? I have used both devices also not gonna say which I prefer... But in my experience once the iPhone is jailbroken, its just as capable as any droid... Not trying to be a dick, i swear! It's just I always hear how android can do so much more and I couldn't find anything that either couldn't do. Please give serious answers guys, not interested in fanboy warfare.

I've used both too. I find it funny that the "open" platform needs to be opened up by rooting just as the iPhone needs to be jailbroken to open all functionality. I personally have had a better experience with the touch screen, keyboard, battery and just overall responsiveness of the iPhone over android. I don't like the fact that an app that works on one android phone doesn't necesarily work on another android device (even a newer one) because of the vast number of specifications available by the large number of manufacturers. I also enjoy music and photography on my device. An iPhone when paired with a Mac and iTunes/iPhoto is just a rock solid solution. No third party sync to worry about. Just plain easy to use. With iCloud and the sync between devices and the cloud, Apple is changing the game again. I've been using te beta and it is awesome. I am a tech. I own my company. I "get" technology. I choose Apple and iPhone because at the end of the day, I just want something that works.

huh? so what can an android do that = greater than 100% of what my iphone 4 does? I've never used an android on a regular basis, just messed around with my brother's android device. There seemed to be just a few options that I need a jailbreak for but they do the same thing. I simply prefer the ease of use of the iphone. Although I LOVE my iphone and crap on non i-devices when given the chance I actually believe that at this time they're all pretty much the same and it's just a matter of what you're used to. I've been using and jailbreaking/unlocking iphones since 2007. So it's what I know and it's what I like. If my introduction to iphone style smartphones was an android I'm sure I'd prefer that. but back to my question... I'd like to see your answer.

@jon 1. Ok got me there I forgot about flash, never use flash anyway on my phones so doesn't effect me either way. But lots of people do use it... Oh and you can still watch most flash videos on iPhone using 3rd party apps like skyfire. Although this is lame and I only use it just to show android users it can be done. 2. Ok got me again, forgot about expandable memory. My iPhone only has about 6GB of space used, and my droid has just over 5GB used. Dunno what you need to put on your phone 3. No computer-like download. Well if you take the 5 mins to jailbreak your device, get safari download manager. It works flawlessly. 4. Jailbreak and get anyattach. Didn't know you can send songs over text message, u sure about that? 5. Didn't know any phone came with a spare battery! Just kidding. All you need is a small screwdriver and the magic of parts from eBay (sometimes they provide the tools free) you can change your battery in 15 mins. 5. So I guess you never heard of winterboard, dreamboard and the vast library of themes that are available. And what you mean by not real change? Have you seen any of the dreamboard themes? There is HTC, Sony and Galaxy S II themes aswell as crazy ones like the OSX Lion theme (mimics desktop functions on your phone). And don't even get me started on icon arrangements and my favourite folder tweak called folderenhancer. 6. Custom ROMS are nice. 7. What makes you think you can install apps on android without rooting? On iPhone, just get installous or ifile and install any app you want. Please do post more! I agree with you on points 1, 2, and 6. But these 3 advantages that android have I never use anyway. I really do want to hear more features that you think trumps the iPhone! I am actually enjoying this debate. But please stick to features none of this open vs closed system bullshit.

Three things involved - arse, droid, sideways! And then figure out what to do with all that! Much more you can do! What for instance? You can't compare mercedes to hyundai! iPhone will always be mercedes and doesn't matter how all hooks will tear up their asses to create something close to that! Basta!

"Yeah, we know these phones aren't the iPhone, nor will they sell half as well. Also, in 2 months, they'll only be worth half of whatever you paid for them. Oh, did we mention that they will be the last phones to receive an update? Yeah, we know, we would rather you buy a new phone than work on a gimped update. Thanks for choosing T-Mobile!"
