Leaked Photo Shows iPhone 5 Running on China Mobile?

A photo has been leaked online which claims to show a next generation iPhone running on China Mobile's 3G TD-SCDMA network, reports AppleInsider.

Several Chinese-character news websites, including sohu.com (translation) and mydrivers.com (translation), re-printed the unauthenticated photo, which depicts a device resembling an iPhone 4 with China Mobile's 3G logo printed in the upper right corner and running an unreleased version of Apple's baseband software carrying version number 06.10.01. The handset also lacks an IMEI number, which the reports suggest is an indication that the device represents an evaluation model.

Brian White, an analyst for Ticonderoga Securities, says that a China Mobile iPhone could "represent a watershed for Apple" giving the company access to 611 million wireless subscribers and 68% of China's wireless market.

"Over the past several months, we have written about China Mobile's mysterious relationship with Apple that has allowed the company to support iPhone subscribers on its network without an official carrier agreement," he wrote. "For example, we have written about China Mobile's iPhone 4 SIM card cutting service, followed by the sale of a mini SIM card and then the retail sale of the iPhone 4 at a few select locations."

Last month a photo of Tim Cook was taken in the lobby of China Mobile’s Headquarters and recently China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said that they'd reached a consensus with Apple on the use of their fourth generation technology in iPhones.

Take a look at the photo below...

I need to download otloboader and Iphone firmware 2.2.x. Is that correct?3. Follow step 3 by launching Pwnage tool and extract otloboader.4. Follow step 4 and put the firmware 2.2.1 file in the specified folder.5. I connect my iphone to the borrowed Mac. Any issues here as an iphone is used on the borrowed Mac. Should I close Itunes on the Mac before I connect my Iphone 3g?6. Launch Pwnage tool7. Step 7. expert mode and select 3g8. Pwnage searches for and finds the 2.2.1 firmware.9. select general, uncheck "activate Iphone". Only "disable partition wipe-out" will be checked.10. check neuter otloboader. Question? Is there a choice in the new version for upgrade to 4.6 or downgrade to 3.9? Which should be checked. Bootneuter will be grayed out of 3G. I will check Cydia and Installer11. Select build.12. I save the custom firmware anywhere I want. EG a thumb drive.13. What login password is step 13 asking for?14. This step asks if the phone has been pawned before. As I have quickpwned on a PC before and been in DFU mode, do I say yes? If so, I put my phone in recovery mode and skip to step 18?Step 18. In my case, I take the custom firmware file and my Iphone to my PC. Itunes detects the phone is in recovery mode and I select OK. 19. Now I hold down the shift key (on a PC)while clicking restore and I select the firmware file I created on the borrowed Mac.20. Itunes on my PC loads the firmware. When done, my phone is jailbroken but I assume I have lost all previous applications installed under Cydia. Correct?23. I synch using Itunes and get all my (non jailbroken) data back.Thank you so much for helping me and many others do this correctly.

Its a very simple, there is a jailbreak tool to change the about screen I do agree that the phone case is identical to an iphone 4, but look at the difference between the 3GS and the 3G. Anyways, most likely fake...

I could create this fake in 2 minutes flat, so I don't see how you are calling it a "very good fake" screenshot your about page, change baseband using photoshop. Sync photo and open it and take a picture, done.
