Mert Erdir has found a way to bypass iOS 5 beta 1 activation without having a developer account, reports Gizmodo.
My will is not to do something harmful to anyone, I just wanted to get the attention of Apple, the company I'm in love with; and maybe one day have a chance to talk to/meet Steve Jobs himself. You can reach me on Twitter for further questions.
I found this because I don't have much cash to get an IOS Developer account, so donations for a young developer will be appreciated. They can be made on my blog (not in english). You'll see the PayPal donate button on the right. Thanks!
Warning: We do not recommend that anyone who is not a developer install iOS 5. Proceed at your own risk... iPad 2 owners should be especially careful since they cannot downgrade even with SHSH blobs
Instructions: Before starting make sure you have downloaded iOS 5.0 and installed by Shift/Option clicking Update or Restore in iTunes.
1. Triple click the home button. This will activate the Voice Over. 2. Triple click the home button and Emergency Call will appear. 3. Click on Emergency Call and, while it's switching, swipe with your three fingers down. 4. The Notification Center will appear! 5. Click on the Weather widget. The Weather app will load. 6. Click on the home button to exit to the iPhone's springboard.
Update: These instructions will let you bypass activation but apparently will not activate cellular service. You can still use them to preview the operating system but without the ability to make calls, it's far less useful.
Those with an iPod touch could try the instructions posted by Lean in the comments since cellular service is not an issue with that device.
another easier way is just to go to emergency call and dial a number...during the call press the keypad button..form there you can press home button to get to the homescreen..
This is not an Activation, this is just a tricky way to get into the homescreen. The multitasking bar is disabled and the notification center won't work. And most important, the phone WOULD NOT HAVE SIGNAL.
I want a dev account for my iPhone 4 and iPad 2, so I can update them to 5.0, if there is anyone who can help me out, pls contact me moaz_b@hotmail.com, I will pay you.
Pretty useless at this point good taste of what iOS 5 holds in store though if you dont feel like waiting till fall for iPhone 5
I never got past the 3 finger swipe oh well back to 4.3.3 I go. Successfully downgraded on my iPhone 4 if anyone is having trouble try Sn0wbreeze make sure you get your phone into iReb mode
Cheers
Beware the Battery life on iPhone 4 is horrible with this beta. Down 50% within about 2 hours with wifi, most notifications, and spotlight search off. Aside from that everything seems to be working smoothly.
your UDID must be on a dev account.. or it won't activate
i have a couple slots available for 5.00
email me at ericplunkett at me dot com and i can get you set up
Easier method: Press emergency call, call any 3 digit number (I did 911) and press the lock button while its starting to call. It'll say failed, just press ok and you will be at the home screen.
Plug your iPad into iTunes and under the info screen click once on the serial number and it will show ur UDID! It's 40 characters long, numbers and letters
i figured out how to bypass this on the ipod touch
first of all you have to go to the activation failed screen. tripple tap home button. then press on ipod to the voice will say. ipod. after that pull down the widget by sliding down with 3 fingers. then keep on pressing on the little information buttons untill your out
My iPod Touch 4g got messed up somehow while trying to get ios5 to work, now it's stuck in voice over and voice over isnt even WORKING! I cant get the triple click to work either. it just brings up the start over button. got any tips?
this works!! confirmed!
did this on a Verizon iPhone 4...only thing is you'll have No Service....
just buy a dev account slot on eBay they're like $3 if you want iOS 5 early that bad! its good forever as long as you keep in contact with the dev you're registering with. and if you get a new device let them know they can swap the UUID's!
hope this helps guys!
p.s. thought the name would be clever !
I'd like to update to iOS 5 but want to make sure i dont brick my phone..
Is there any way you can give me step by step instructions for dummies (including all steps not included on article)?
