Magazine publishers have started to get onboard with Apple's in-app subscriptions for a surprising reason, according to Forbes. Publishers initially feared they wouldn't be able to collect customer data via the App Store; however, it turns out that whopping 50% of customers willing agree to provide their private information to publishers.
Mark Edmiston, founder of the tablet magazine studio Nomad Editions, first heard that figure from other publishers, so he ran it by Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of internet services. Cue confirmed it. "So, all the sudden, what was an insurmountable obstacle no longer is," says Edmiston. No wonder "publishing executives say they are more confident they will be able to work with Apple to find out who their iPad readers are."
Such a high opt-in percentage is attributed to the trust customers have in the App Store.
