Windows App Store Screenshots Leaked, Resembles Mac App Store

Screenshots of an upcoming Windows App Store have been leaked online. The screenshots are from Windows 8, according to ZDNet.

From what we see here, it suggests one will be able to download a vast number of applications, ranging from games to office applications. With applications available like Opera and Angry Birds, it’s clear that Microsoft are following suit with other content providers by opening up to third-party applications.

ZDNet notes that the images resemble the Mac App Store, the Ubuntu Download Center, and Windows Media Player.

These images also explain why Microsoft is contesting Apple's trademark application for the term 'App Store'.

Also MS would probably call it Windows Marketplace or something, not App Store

Microsoft has already very publicly fought Apple's attempt at trademarking the term "App Store" so clearly they are planning on naming it something along those lines.

I believe this has been proven to being fake, with things such as the ability to purchase Windows 7 Ultimate OS when the App Store is rumoured for release with Windows 8. Reply to most commenters: Software for Windows have been classed as Applications for god knows how long, who refers to an application as a program :S App Store is a very generic term, Apple are just pushing their luck with trying to stop other competitors using a generic term. Reply to Aaron: Because Bill Gates still works at Microsoft :S

I never mentioned ownership or copy rights... I know what does the wordmeans literally. Thank you! Let me utilize another term so you could better understand my point... The frase / term or however u wanna call it "App" is well associated all around d world to Apples "App Store" and it's iOS Isn't it? Before the App Store. Neither Amazon or Microsoft could care less about the term "App" .... How come they do know? How lame is it when a Corp as big as Microsoft keeps insisting to look alike it's biggest rival? Clear example is the failure of Zune.

You still aren't getting it.... they arent trying to look like anyone, they are simply using a WORD that refers to a computer program..... I think most people would agree that the Nike swoosh is associated with Nike all throughout the world. It doesn't mean that other people that use the word "swoosh"a re trying to look like Nike, and Nike most certainly was not the first to coin the phrase.

It's widely known that "App" is synonymous of Apple.... And Program of Windows / PC.... Why in the &&@%# Microsoft doesn't stick to their stuff and quit mimicking Apple?!?! Eh!?

Jared - April 11, 2011 at 6:25pm
Wrong. As I said to the other guy "App" is short for "application" which is just another word for "Program." It has NOTHING to do with Apple. It is not synonymous with Apple, they do not own the rights to the word and they never will so get over it.

Program is just another word for Application and App is short for application.... Apple was hardly the first to use the term "App." That being said, this design is piss-poor and I would be appalled if they released the final version of their App Store looking like this.

But Apple call Mac OS X programs Applications or Apps whereas MS call it Program. Apple innovates, others copy.
