Nielsen has just released data examining the battle for domination of the U.S. smartphone industry. They note that the winner depends on whether you're looking at operating systems or manufacturers.

When it comes to consumer marketshare by operating system, Android (29%) appears to be pulling ahead of RIM Blackberry (27%) and Apple iOS (27%). But an analysis by manufacturer shows RIM and Apple to be the winners compared to other device makers since they are the only ones creating and selling smartphones with their respective operating systems. HTC follows with 12 percent of consumer smartphone owners having an HTC Android device and 7 percent owning an HTC device running a Microsoft OS. Ten percent of consumer smartphone owners had a Motorola Android device and one percent owned a Motorola device running a Microsoft OS.

Um, I like my iPhone better than any android phones, but I can clearly see from these numbers that android phones have a small edge on iOS and the trend of android has been one of extremely rapid growth while iOS adoption has slowed a bit. So, basically, you should have kept your mouth closed because what you wrote has no base in reality.

Droid software as a whole is at 29% based on the data in this article but if yu look at cellphone manufacturer apple and blackberry are bigger because droid is all split between HTC and motorola and they all have different interfaces so in realoty even though android has a higher % apple and blackberry win because anyone with an iOS/blackberry software can pick up a phone using the same software and not be confused/lost vs someone switch from htc to moto droid software or vice versa
