AT&T may be moving up iPhone 4 eligibility dates for some customers in an effort to lock down as many contracts as possible before Verizon gets the iPhone.
MacStories reports, "My upgrade eligibility is not up until mid-February, 2011. I know because I check, often. It’s always been that … until today. I just got an email not 30 minutes ago from AT&T and is said that I am now eligible to upgrade to the new Apple iPhone 4. Why 2 months early? Could this indeed mean Verizon could be showing off their iPhone after Christmas?"

I got the same email recently, but I bought the 3GS when it was up for pre-order. I was eligible to upgrade to iPhone 4 when they released it as well. They were going to let me upgrade a year early, so I'm not so sure what this email is hinting to...
the email is true. most of the time, at least when i worked there, only customers who have paid their bills everymonth on time can get the early upgrade with a full discount on the iphone. Also it depends on when exactly you got the phone and usually its only for those who are already iphone customers. Personally i think its ridiculous that customers have to be on a 2 year contract when a new iphone comes out every year!
I was a new customer with a 30 trial to see if I will like the iphone 3gs and decided that I like the iphone. So I checked online to see if I can upgrade to the iphone 4, but it said that I could not until 11/16/2011 so I called and found out that I had about 1 day left on my trial.
I told the csr that I wanted to upgrade to the iphone 4 and she said that I can just by walking into any att store. So I did just that and now I have a new iphone 4.
I bought my girlfriend an iPhone 3G last christmas and her upgrade time is 8/2011. But I bought the iPhone 4 this summer and my upgrade time is 6/2011. I wanted to see about getting her the new phone because we all know on the 3G, 4.2.1 is terrible. She had me downgrade to her to 3.1.3, she can't have any new apps and she's not happy.
Verizon is shit where I live, besides I am grandfathered into the unlimited AT&T plan, why would I want to give that up? I download like 4gb of information every week on my 3G connection
Got the same email. Called up online but no luck. CSR kept on saying that she is seeing 02/19/2011. Went to the store, same problem. They had no idea and would not honor it.

Upgraded my wife's old phone to a 3gs just a few months ago for $100 and also received the upgrade email on her number this week! Have not checked what it states on line....
I got the same email, but when I went online my eligibility is still showing Feb 2011. However. I'm sure if I showed the email to an AT&T rep, I'll get the deal. And yes, this may be desperation before Verizon takes over.
Mine still says March 23, 2011. I was really hoping it would change before Christmas, so I could surprise my wife with an iPhone 4. While Verizon's service may be better for PHONE calls, I really don't make those much, so I don't care, and the rest of the family is already locked into a brand new 2 year contract from this year, so I wish AT&T would make an exception for me. I hope I get this email you guys are talking about, so I can take advantage of this.
