The iPhone Dev-Team has just issued a notice stating that updating your iPhone to the iPad baseband for unlock could result in the loss of GPS functionality.
Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00. Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume youll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section. (Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks dont work).
While the iPad baseband should be capable of GPS functionality if you don't absolutely need the unlock you should not update to the iPad baseband at this time.

Quick fix.
Most likely you will needed your gps in the car, you will needed a charger and a dock.
Buy a used Magellan gps car dock, it has gps chip build in the dock, it worked for iPad baseband.

wow, still on 3.1.2 and and complaining wholeheartedly about the problems of 4.2.1??? something tells me you have no intention to ever leave 3.1.2 (until it stops getting supported) if you chose to ignore other STABLE firmwares like 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 which are both jailbreakable + unlockable.

I tried this on my 3G 8GB. First of all, it did not unlock. secondly, I lost ATT network as well. My phone was working for ATT at least on the 05.14.02 baseband and 4.1 OS. On updating to 4.2.1 and ipad baseband to unlock for a friend, I have lost the modem functional altogether. And yes, GPS also does not work anymore. Reflashing with pawned FW also did not help. Now it is stuck on "Connect to iTunes" I hope the Dev team can release a fix for this.

If you have saved your shsh blobbs from 4.1 then downgrade it to that os. You will probably get the 1015 error after that. This can be fixed with tiny umbrella. I had the sam problem, and now it is working ok, 4.1 with 6.15, exept the gps whis is still a problem.

Thanks solomon, I went back to 4.1, but no unlock. I still get "No Service" after a nout a minute of searching. The sad part is, if I go to carrliers list, it shows AT&T and TMobile, but does not register to anyone of them. I ascrewed!

I hv an iphone 3g 8gb. post JB with redsn0w and unlock with ultrasn0w, everything worked fine. even the GPS is working. but as soon i use the GPRS or wifi to access internet the battery starts to drain very fats. it went from 100 to 0 in flat 4 hours when i just kept the GPRS on (enable 3G) and was not even accessing the net. I believe some bug which keeps accessing the net and drains the battery, DEV team pls come out with a fix for this immediately. Thanks.

I have the same problem. I have an iPhone 3G on tmobile network (so I can't use 3G speeds).
After I updated to FW 4.2.1 and BB 6.15. My battery drains within 3-5 hrs. When all I've done is text two
Sentences. So far GPS works fine.

It seems like with every new firmware, Apple is getting closer and closer to winning the battle.

Why anyone would want to do this Frankenstein hack is really beyond me. I am surprised the Dev team even released it.
