iPhone 3G Speed Test: iOS 4 versus iOS 4.1 [Video]

iPhone 3G Speed Test: iOS 4 versus iOS 4.1 [Video]

Posted September 3, 2010 at 4:34pm by iClarified
Check out this video comparison showing the performance of the iPhone 3G on iOS 4 versus iOS 4.1.

Lifehacker posted the following results:
● Messages: iOS 4.1 Wins (By a Little)
● Maps: iOS 4.1 Wins (By a Lot)
● Photos: iOS 4.1 Wins (Just Barely)
● Safari: iOS 4.1 Wins (Just Barely)

While the speed advantages ranged from marginal to significant, iOS 4.1 clearly outperformed iOS 4.0. It's still significantly slower performance than you'll get from a 3GS or iPhone 4, and we're still not sure it's a big enough improvement that 3G owners will want to ditch iOS 3. The most obvious difference was UI responsiveness. The UI didn't get stuck nearly as much on an interface element or when trying to enter text. If you are set on using iOS 4, the upgrade is worthwhile for that alone.

These are clearly 3g iphones, if you look on the home screen there is no compass app, which only comes on 3gs and i4. Plus the 3g has been the phone running slow on 4.0 software, no need to run the test on the 3gs since the software runs fine on it. This video shows there is some hope for having 4.1 on the 3g iphone and actually have it work decent.

Someone say it is a 3G, and the 3GS was a mistake in the video.

What do u think is fastest os version for 3G. Mine is on 3.0 (mainly because I didn't want to hastle with JB again on windows pc) and i think it's pretty slow. Now it's my backup/play phone. Maybe time to upgrade. And/or install android. Any thoughts?

Upgrade to 3.1.2 & JB with Blackra1n in a minute. You can also just as easily JB 3.1.3 with Spirit. IMHO, 3.1.2/3.1.3 are crisper than 3.0 plus you'll be able to run more apps that require newer FW versions. If you go to 3.1.3, using RedSnow JB is more involved but better because you can use with iTunes 9.2+.

If I'm not mistaken, the video itself displays text that refers to the tests running on an iPhone 3GS, not a 3G

You are right, it says 3GS! It's not the first time iClarified writes those bullshit articles.

It means Apple only support the new gadget?? This happens not only on iPhone, but also on the PPC like iBook, right?
