Enable Tethering on Your iPhone Using TetherMe

Enable Tethering on Your iPhone Using TetherMe

Posted August 14, 2010 at 7:31pm by iClarified
TetherMe dynamically enables native tethering for iOS 3.x and iOS 4.x iPhones. It should work on any carrier without the need for customized bundles or preferences.

TetherMe has been tested to work on all iOS versions from 3.0 to 4.0.1 and works by telling the iPhone to allow tethering on any APN that is used for iPhone data. As a result, you should not be charged extra from your phone company as all tethering data appears to come from the phone itself.

TetherMe also bypasses signature checking and allows you to edit your carrier bundle manually if you so desire. This is required to enable MMS functionality on T-Mobile. TetherMe does NOT enable the loading of APN configurations from .mobileconfig profiles at this time.

There is no icon for this item. After installation or reboot, tethering will be available to turn on in Settings -> General -> Network, or install the Tethering Toggle for SBSettings

TetherMe can be purchased from the Cydia Store for $1.99.

I get an error when I'm installing it "Can't access cellular Network". It looks like its still installing & asks me to restart Springboard but the tethering option doesn't show up even after a few hard resets

I'm also having the same problem. I downloaded it the 1st time and it worked perfectly, but when I went back to Cydia it showed that I needed to update the app and when I did I got the same issues as you

Worked perfectly for me after hard reboot. And if you are on a mac, usb tethering will only work if you have iTunes open, why? I have no idea. So USB and Bluetooth tethering worked flawlessly.

You MUST delete any old mobile profiles you have stored. Reboot the phone and it will work! I had the same problem with my 3GS after the old tethering through mobile profile hack was used.

I bought it and it doesn't work for me either :( I rebooted my iPhone & iPad more than 10 times after I installed on iPhone 4 (4.01) and turned on settings/general/network. My iPad cannot find anything new Bluetooth or WiFi sitting right next to the phone :( Can I file a Paypal dispute??

Try looking under Settings>General>Network You should see the Internet Tethering option there. Hope this helps.

synnerg (the developer or big mouth script kitty?) It may work for others but it doesn't work for me...I'm not an idiot, I've been on the internet since 1994-5 with Netcom's Netcruiser/Mosaic setup and I am also an Apple Developer with 5 apps on iTunes AND I make a living helping others with their computer problems and building web sites for Law Firms. Sometimes people aren't the idiots you make them out to be and I am certainly Not the only one here with issues. My point was to warn others because when it comes to support, you just get people like yourself that just start calling you names...and you made my point.

bet this is gonna hurt at&t's illegal little scheme to charge 20 extra bucks just to enable tethering with no extra data

You need to have iTunes installed for it to work under windows - iTunes installs the Apple Mobile Device Service, which must be running at the time you enable USB Tethering on the iPhone.

Strangest thing happening to me. I just recieved my iPhone 4 from apple.com (unlocked), i stuck in my Sim & tethering option is enabled & i'm definitely not paying for it!

Tru - August 15, 2010 at 5:22am
If your phone or iTunes asks you to update your carrier settings...DONT. This will remove the option for tethering in most cases. Had the same issue myself so I restored the iPhone and now I never update carrier settings

then just wait for $20.00 dollar charge from ATT for Tethering services....

I don't know what it's like with AT&T but i'm with O2 in the UK and as long as you don't take the piss and overuse tethering, they won't notice.

I was about to buy it until you said this. Sigh. 1. What sort of iPhone do you have? 2. What carrier? 3. What iOS version are you using? Thanks. Anyone get this to work at all?

What's a hard reset? Is that "slide to power off"?
TechSupport
TechSupport - August 14, 2010 at 10:32pm
Hold The Home And Power Till The Phone Turns Off And You See The Apple Screen Than Let Go Of Both Buttons. Than Go To Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering.

G - August 14, 2010 at 10:32pm
Hard reset is when you hold home button and power button at the same time for 10 seconds. Phone will turn off when it comes on you will see apple logo, let go of both buttons when you see apple logo

A new app for $2 is coming out next week which will have the capabilities of mywi
David
David - August 14, 2010 at 11:19pm
Worked right off the bat with my iPhone 4 4.0.1 AT&T. I had previously enabled tethering using the Wortel CommCenter and carrier.plist hack but undid that and switched to this despite the $2 because I expect it to be updated to continually address any issues that might arise. Plus, if I ever need to restore and re-JB the phone, it's easier to remember to install one app than to repeat a more complex procedure. When I loaded TetherMe, tethering showed up right away without anything more than a standard reboot from Cydia. No hard reset required. Repeated with my wife's 3GS (also at 4.0.1) and it worked exactly the same.

tethering not working for Tmobile? Make sure you turn off 3G on your phone or Tmobile wont work. Tethering on ATT works over 3G, but on Tmobile only over Edge, which is so slow as to be essentially useless.. Moral of the story, you are wasting your iPhones ability to go faster, by using Tmobile, which has no iPhone compatible 3G. I had my iPhone on Tmobile for a couple years, when I lived where ATT had no reception, but now that I live where Tmobile has no reception, and ATT does, Im MUCH happier with 3G internet speed, even though it does cost more.. I use PDANet when I need to tether, works fine, and its free, or redownload it.. if the trial expires.
