iPhone 3G Performs Much Slower on iOS 4.0 [Video]

Posted June 22, 2010 at 4:29pm by iClarified
A video comparison by Adrian Nier shows that the iPhone 3G performs significantly slower on iOS 4.0.

Camera Launch: 40% slower
Camera Shoot: 54% slower

Settings Launch: 125% slower

Safari Loads NYT: 37% faster

Also please note that if you decide to jailbreak and enable multitasking this will make your iOS 4 device even slower!

Take a look at a comparison video by T. Payton below...

Any one notice tethering option showing a working pinwheel. I believe that is slowing my 3G iPhone drastically.

My camera opens faster and takes photo's faster than both these iphones in this video, settings takes a little longer than the 3 version, but faster than the iOS4, and safari .... well you cant really test that as the internet is not precise enough to do a comparison, at the moment I didnt notace a significant decrease in speed ...

I don't see this issue on my 3G. Mine load in same time as 3.1.3 shown in video. Didn't have any issue with jailbreak and unlocking. Works great on T-mobile.

If you jailbreak/upgrade a 3G iPhone to iOS4 with redsn0w, you will see the same sluggishness as the in the video. I say this from experience. But if you start over again and use Pwnage Tool 4.0, your jailbroken 3G will be even faster than when it was running 3.1.3. I don't know why this is the case, but it is a night/day difference. Redsn0w is the culprit, not iOS4.

yes you are absolutely right. I used the pwnage tool to jailbreak now and my 3G is faster with iOS4 than 3.1.3

I thought multitasking does not work on the iPhone 3G. If not how do you enable it?

It doesn't (with the initial software update), you first have to go in to the restore 4.0 file and set multitasking to "True". See this: https://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=8777

This test and post is rubbish. The fact is that if you have multitasking enabled your setting, camera and everything opens up in a flash - as long you dont have too many things on memory. Just simply because multitasking puts these on the memory so when you open them again they really open fast - faster than ever! You only need to remember to keep eye on amount of the stuff you have on the multitasking list - killing the big ones you dont need to open again soon... My 3G is flying in basic usage - vs. 3.1.2 and below...

OMG! My 3G isnt working either. What did you find out on it? I was told that there is an issue with some phones with the update. Apparently Apple have been notified. At first I thought my phone was screwed in some way.

i sure hope this is not true, people please post your results, even if opinions only, because i dont think WE want it running any slower than it is now, 2.X.X to 3.0 was a major slowdown IMO

I'm using an iPhone 3g iOS 4.0 and I got slower than the video (although I do have multitasking enabled)

I believe the iPhone 3G with iOS 4.0 used in this demo probably had to many stuff installed or had problems because I tested my 3G with iOS 4.0 in conjuction with the video and the loading speed was the same or maybe faster than the 3.1.x used in the demo.
