Ikea has unveiled SYMFONISK, a new range of speakers that work with the Sonos wireless sound system.
Sonos has collaborated with IKEA on SYMFONISK, a range of speakers designed to democratize the home sound system. Combining our expertise in sound and technology with IKEA’s knowledge of home furnishing, SYMFONISK seamlessly fits into the home to enhance everyday life and integrates with the Sonos system.
"Our goal is for our collective work to save space, get rid of cords, make clutter invisible, and bring sound and music into the home in a more beautiful way," said Björn Block, Business Leader for IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden.
Sound that blends in to the room
Easily mount this speaker with the KUNGFORS rail or rack to use it as a shelf, or hide it away on your bookshelf. Pair two for stereo separation, and use them as home theater surrounds with Sonos Beam, Playbar, or Playbase.
Sound that lights up the room
Enjoy powerful sound and light from this table lamp, which conceals a speaker with a sound profile similar to Sonos One. Pair two for stereo sound, and use them as home theater surrounds with Sonos Beam, Playbar, or Playbase.
The company also offered some more details about the speakers in an interview with The Verge.
The lamp and bookshelf speakers will be full-fledged members of the Sonos ecosystem. They can join an existing setup or serve as your entry into multiroom audio. If you buy two of each, you can stereo pair them or even use them as the rears in a 5.1 audio setup, assuming you already own a Playbase, Playbar, or Sonos Beam. (How many 5.1 systems do you know of that include lamps as rear speakers?) Both speakers also support Apple’s AirPlay 2 for playing music from a slew of apps or with voice commands via Siri.
Pricing and Availability:
The SYMFONISK speakers will be available at Ikea beginning August 2019. The table lamp will cost $179 and the bookshelf speaker will cost $99.
