Demand for the cellular Apple Watch Series 3 model is 'significantly stronger' than expected, according to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The higher demand is being attributed to the 'low premium of $70' over non-LTE models.
Kuo now believes that 80-90% of Apple Watch pre-orders will be for the cellular model.
Before the media event, we forecasted the production weighting of the GPS + Cellular version would be 30-40%. However, the pre-order website shows shipments of this version are taking much longer than those of the GPS version (3-4 weeks, from shipments launch day of September 22). We estimate the preorder weighting of the GPS + Cellular version is 80-90%.
As expected, Kuo says that the iPhone X is 'very likely' to cannibalize iPhone 8 pre-orders.
Historically, it takes 3-6 weeks or more to ship new iPhone models after they are available for preorder, due to initial tight supply and robust demand. However, our latest review indicates it will take less than 1-2 weeks for the iPhone 8. We believe this is because there is a strong likelihood that iPhone X demand will cannibalize iPhone 8 pre-orders
iPhone X pre-orders don't begin until October 27th. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS to be notified when they go live.
I don't need a new iPhone but I will be looking to see how the iPhone 10 will be and will also wait to see if apple removes the notch and make it better. I prefer but my money on a new watch with GPS with longer batter life. Cell service on a watch is old and I don't see any benefit of making calls on the wrist since talk time will be only 1hr not to mention another bill and more money for cell carriers $10 no it should be $5 it's just an extension again. The iPhone 10 is over priced screen size will be squeezed according to the information while the iPhone models screena will be a better view.
I am not so sure the the iPhone X will cannibalize sales of the 8/8Plus as much as was initially predicted. Firstly, I think that the reasonably strong sales of the Apple Watch 3 (with or without LTE) were the result of people wanting to buy something and they didn't want the iPhone 8/8Plus (or the AppleTV), so they went for the Watch, intrigued by the potential use of LTE. Now, having thrown down all that coin for the Watch, I think that people are going to have second thoughts about spending so much for the IPhoneX. I mean, heck, the iPhone 8 is just as good (in fact it has better benchmarks than the X), it is less expensive and it is available NOW. So I predict a renewed interest in the iPhone 8, with sales numbers picking up. The iPhoneX will still outsell it, just not as much as was initially projected.
