A new security feature in iOS 11 beta lets you quickly disable Touch ID and bring up the SOS slider for calling emergency services.
Rapidly clicking the sleep/wake button five times will automatically disable Touch ID and present you with the Emergency SOS slider. You don't need to use the slider but if you do, your device will call emergency services (911) and your emergency contacts will be notified of the call and your location.
If activated the feature would prevent someone from physically compelling you to unlock the device. Even with a court order, it would be impossible to use your fingerprint to unlock the iPhone, a passcode would be required.
apple is against the government.... what if your child attacked or loved one is killed and all the information is on their device.... should the government not be able to enter the device
Perhaps Apple should put enabling the feature under restrictions. Would be nice to have a parental override passcode as well. Or the "Oh no, I'm dead!" passcode to enable your estate to open the phone.
All in all I prefer security of my personal information. If you allow government backdoors or allow "easy" hacking by the government, then you might as well not have a passcode at all. Organized crime will gain the ability to open up and resell stolen phones. And iPhone used to be targets of theft until made more secure, and stolen violently, not just off a nightstand. So strong encryption reduces crime.
