Engadget has posted renders of Apple's next generation iPhone based on a leaked CAD file.
A 'reliable source' showed the site a 'highly detailed CAD file' of the 'iPhone 8's' chassis. While the file could not be shared, it was used to generate the renders seen below.
The device is said to feature a glass back to facilitate wireless charging and a vertically aligned dual-lens camera bump. It's also said to have a dual camera for selfies and a fingerprint reader that's flush with the front glass.
Speaking of, our source said both screen sizes will be getting bumped up: the 4.7-inch version will go up to 5 inches, and the 5.5-inch "Plus" version will be stretched to 5.8 inches. Alas, these renders don't indicate whether the new displays will go from edge to edge as rumored, but the body measurements in the CAD file do point to a slightly taller, wider and thicker body than the iPhone 7.
The site refers to two models of the iPhone 8 as separate from the 10th anniversary iPhone. Most previous rumors have suggested that Apple will release an iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and iPhone 8.
As with all leaks, there's always a possibility that these renders may turn out to be false (which we highly doubt given the nature of these files), or that Apple may give up on this design entirely. Either way, there's still the rumored tenth anniversary iPhone to look forward to as well
We're not expecting Apple to unveil its new iPhone's until September. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS to stay up to date with the latest leaks!
Thumbs down. First they said there will be no 7s now they are saying there will be a 7s and what will be so different let's say that they do have all 3 phones 7s, 7s plus and 8? Then what? Ios11 then what? Ios12 and iPhone 10? Then what? $1500.00 and the cost of living will be like what? Good luck.
How is this design really ugly? It's basically the same thing as the iPhone 6 and 7 but with a glass back. There really aren't going to be drastic changes to the design of smartphones from here on out. Merely incremental tweaks. The Galaxy S8 and the iPhone have pretty much become the same thing, as have all other smartphones and tablets. It's the same thing with the automotive industry - compact SUV by Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, etc. have all become the same "basically" the same thing.
I meant to say they have all essentially become the same design. This has been written about in the design community regarding the automotive industry - it's called a trend toward homogeneity. All cars are becoming the same rounded box. Fortunately the iPhone is still miles better than competitors because of iOS. Touchwiz is still so horrible - doesn't matter how fast the processor is in a galaxy phone or how tiny the bezels are. Anyway, back to this article. One thing that I do think will be fairly cool is if they are able to embed the Touch ID below the actual display in the iPhone 8. It will definitely happen in the future iPhones but I'm now sure if they will have it ironed-out this time around.
