Apple is Investigating Reports of the iPhone 7 Failing to Obtain Cellular Service After Exiting Airplane Mode

Apple is investigating reports of the iPhone 7 failing to obtain cellular service after Airplane mode is turned off, according to internal documents seen by MacRumors. For now, service providers are advised to have customers restart their devices and if there is still no service to have the customer reinsert their SIM card.

MacRumors reader Yasser El-Haggan has shared a video that shows Airplane mode being turned off on an iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s obtains two bars of LTE but the iPhone 7 displays No Service.

All of a sudden today my iPhone 7 Jet Black model started not getting internet service -- can’t make outbound calls or receive calls -- even though it showed 4 bars. I then put it in Airplane Mode, and back off, then it showed no service. It got pretty warm in the top right hand corner.

I then took a video of my wife's iPhone 6s right next to my iPhone 7, put them both in Airplane Mode, and then switched Airplane Mode off and you can see immediately that the iPhone 6s gets signal instantly, and the iPhone 7 just sits there searching. I then took her SIM and put it in my iPhone 7, no luck, put my SIM in her phone, and it got signal right away.

Apple swapped out El-Haggan's phone with a new one. Let us know if you have experienced anything similar with your iPhone 7. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

The "no service" bug isn't just when switching of airplane mode. It happened spontaneously after having iPhone 7 for two days. Apple exchanged it for a new one. Two days later, the same thing happened with the new iPhone 7. I'm returning the iPhone 7 later today. I have an AT&T model.

Yes, it's iOS 10 GM bug for T-mobile. Only thing I can do is rebooting my iPhone 6.

Yes!!!! All my T-Mobile buddies have that issue since the update to iOS10. Its less now maybe 1 time per day which is way too much but the first couple of days it was like 4-5 times a day.

Also, it's easy to open it with iOS 10 using apps like periscope. If you respond from the notification while you phone is locked, it will go into app and unlock it and you can get in to the phone. I haven't checked other apps.

I mean iPhone 6S. Running iOS 10 and I'm unable to unlock it without a code or fingerprint from the locked screen by responding to notification with the periscope app.
