Apple to Include Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter With iPhone 7, Not Lightning EarPods?

Apple to Include Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter With iPhone 7, Not Lightning EarPods?

Posted July 22, 2016 at 3:10pm by iClarified
Apple is reportedly planning to include a Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter with the iPhone 7 rather than releasing a new pair of Lightning EarPods, reports Deutsche Bank.

The prediction comes via research note in which Deutsche Bank analysts reveal what they are expecting from the iPhone 7 based on supply chain checks.

Here's a look at what they are anticipating:
● A “Plus” model with a dual-camera for better zoom and 3GB of RAM
● A standard model with an improved camera and optical image stabilisation
● Better sound, possibly stereo sound
● “Professional class water-proofing
● A home button that uses motors to simulate a click, which would last longer than the current home button
● A new colour, so there’s a version that looks different than current iPhones
● The elimination of the 3.5mm headphone jack, as has been discussed endlessly. Headphones will instead plug in through Apple’s lightning charging port
● Deutsche Bank expects Apple to include a Lightning-to-audio dongle with the iPhone 7, not a pair of Lightning headphones

This isn't the first time we've heard that Apple plans to ship the iPhone 7 with an adapter rather than Lightning headphones. Back in June, Macotakara made the same prediction.

I wouldn't say shitty because we do t k ow if this is the final look or if it will really happen, but knew thing's for sure is we live in a world with wireless Bluetooth headphones. Why can't you just do that!?

If apple does this to its upcoming product. YOU ARE GOING TO BE CLOSED FOREVER. Apple is purposely irritating its customers, "Nothing lasts forever" - Avengers - Age of Ultron.

What do you mean we're going to be closed? Nothing will last forever unless there is a way that's going to happen. I don't see how this could irritate customers. If people don't like this, they can just use wireless headphones, plus it's also mentioned apple is making it, just not mentioned here.

I charge while using headphones all the time. Why would they do this...water proofing - too much of a sacrifice.

Basically to make it thinner but upgrade the headphones ro Lightning plus that apple is now making Bluetooth EarPods or to be exact with what they are rumored to be called- airpods, plus that they can add a second speaker and this also means that they could be stereo this time. I say bring it in. I use wireless headphones anyway even if it is more to charge.

i pretty much only listen to music on my phone when I'm working out, and when i do, i use wireless bluetooth headphones anyway, so this change won't affect me one way or the other. that being said, I can't really understand why they're doing away with it. If it makes it thinner and cooler looking, maybe i can get on board with it. but it seems like a dumb idea to me.

I like this change. I can't tell you how many times my earbuds failed because of how bent affecting the sound and this has occurred to many wired headphones. I can finally look forward to the extra speaker, the Lightning headphones and wireless headphones. I don't care if it's same thickness or if it ever appears thinner.

Looks like Apple wants to give the iPhone a dong-le. I wonder if it is stiff enough...maybe after stroking the volume buttons?

Maybe the new iPhone will be wireless charging like the watch so you can listen and charge at the same time if needed...Honestly I cant remember the last time I had to plug my headphones in while charging...

And how do I charge my phone while using my headphones? Since playing games or streaming music drains the battery like hell, this would be a stupid idea.

gamerscul9870 - July 22, 2016 at 5:05pm
Maybe there can be a lightning adapter that includes another lightning/30-pin along with headphone jack all as one.

Adapter in adapter in adapter....this doesn't seem like an Apple solution. They USUALLY provide neat and well integrated solutions.

matrixmaniac - July 22, 2016 at 5:32pm
That's totally NOT true when it comes to adapters. Have you ever seen the lightning to HDMI adapter? Or any of these USB 3c to anything else adapters?? They make the whole idea of compact and "well designed" mobile devices just so ridiculous and embarrassing. As always: No headphone jack no buy!
gamerscul9870
gamerscul9870 - July 22, 2016 at 5:34pm
The integrated solutions are wireless headphones along with wireless charging (if it is actually wireless) or lightning EarPods/ headphone jack with a second cord for charging. Who knows?

it doesn't make sense to include volume rocker on the adapter.
gamerscul9870
gamerscul9870 - July 22, 2016 at 4:20pm
I doubt they can do that when it comes to having to reach down for it or mistakenly pressing buttons when trying to sit down with the phone in the pockets.
Chip
Chip - July 22, 2016 at 5:06pm
Stop thinking about yourself, it's a universal adapter for headphones without volume rockers. It can be used as a standalone or to assist others without volume rockers.

Sam_Sam - July 22, 2016 at 8:45pm
It is so close to your phone you could simply use the volume controls on the phone, think before you comment.
