Worked then abruptly blocked ALL my Wi-Fi. Cellular was still fine. Took a Reset Network and router reboot to fix.

It throttles my home wifi speeds from 30 to 5 Mbps. Is this common?

Yeah VPNs can dictate the speeds they offer you. That's not really all that fast

Agreed. Is this something I should do?? Haven't educated myself too much about VPNs.

VPNs are useful in two ways: 1). It essentially makes you appear in another location as you are connecting to a remote server that takes your incoming traffic and you are assigned an IP by that server. So it's like if you are located physically at the server in a "virtual" way. 2).It routes your traffic around firewalls such as McAfee, Bluecoat (usually in corporate settings) that force all traffic to use their proxy server. What a VPN is great for, is that it encrypts your data and prevents the proxy firewall from seeing what sites or things you are doing online, so the firewall is unable to block certain sites from loading. One great is Netflix with their regionally geographic blocks they have placed in various countries. The thing is that Virtual Private Networks are going to be sure when they have several users on at the same time, and also there is a slow response time fro when the data is sent out and the server has to send a data back from a far location can cause everything to download slower. It could go more in-depth, but that's the overall sense of what it does.
