Samsung is Reportedly Planning to Release a Foldable Smartphone/Tablet Next Year

Posted April 2, 2016 at 12:46am by iClarified
Samsung is planning to bring its foldable smartphone/tablet concept to life next year, reports ETNews. The device will be a 5-inch smartphone when closed and will open to a 7-inch tablet.

Mass production of the foldable displays are said to begin by the end of this year with sales of the new smartphone/tablet beginning next year.

Industries are expecting that Foldable Smartphones will create new momentum in Smartphone markets that are somewhat slowing down. Just like how a large cellphone like a size of a brick has become smaller and how normal flip-phone has become a Smartphone, industries are expecting that Foldable Smartphone will create new innovation in Smartphone markets. It is heard that Samsung Electronics has been preparing for Foldable Smartphones since 3 years ago because it knew that Smartphone markets were slowing down.

“Development of Foldable OLED is taking place according to our plan.” said Director Lee Chang-hoon of Samsung Display at performance conference call that took place in January. “We are planning on mass-production and release of this product by discussing with our partners.”

Back in 2013 Samsung posted a concept video demonstrating what a foldable smartphone/tablet might look like.

Take a look at the video below...

Wow! Wish that they would have crammed that into the Galaxy Note 6/7.

Apple isn't behind. Samsung always tries to release their phones months after a new iPhone in order to try to be ahead. As for the screens, they look just as good, plus when laminated display was used for the iPhone, Samsung copied that as well.

Agree with kitkt2 on this. Unless rivals released phones around the time iPhone came out, it doesn't mean that Apple is lacking anything. It's the phones released months later may be supporting newer technology made some time after the iPhone or they play cat and mouse meaning waiting until Apple makes something just so they can try to be better in order to beat them. Say all you want about whatever Apple copied, it still doesn't prove that Apple pencil actually does better than styluses because it's that different based on how much you do, it doesn't change why people later came out with their own Ai assistants, some iOS features, etc.! With that out of the way, about Apple itself and judging from where they are now based on past products released and the work they have done, I'd say they're still doing a great job even if they are trying to be original with the recent iPhone released and come to think about it, looking at the s models and newer iPhones themselves, new features are increasingly coming and I mean year after year we get more new stuff. Think about it- iPhone 4s: Siri, iPhone 5s: tru tone flash, touch I.D., iPhone 6s: Retina Flash, 2GB ram, 3D Touch, all the camera upgrades, Live Photos, and improved everything else inside and outside.

This will be very interesting in a month. Majority of outside apps has Malware. Intended for advertising and stealing your information. It won't be long before you reflect back on the lack of headaches with Apple versus the need to put an Anti-Virus/Malware on your phone. I went through it already and it's not worth any money for any phone. Imaging trying to use that phone when it's updating, scanning for Malware or even, trying to remove the malware without destroying all your information? I expect to hear from you in a very short week. Goodluck.

I don't see a need for bendable displays unless something is so huge to roll up in order to save space like LG's new TV, but for tablets and phones, I just don't see it.
