Apple has updated Messages for Mac with support for Live Photos in OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 beta. The first beta of 10.11.4 was just seeded to developers on Monday.
When receiving a Live Photo in Messages for Mac, you'll notice an icon at the top right hand corner denoting it as a Live Photo. If you open the image with Quick Look, a Live Photo Play button appears at the bottom left hand corner.
Unfortunately, if you drag and drop or copy and paste the image to your file system, you still get just a still image.
Try it out and let us know what you think!
