Apple has added the $800 Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back Headphones with a fully integrated Lightning connector to its online store. The headphones, that cost more than the iPhone itself, were designed by BMW's DesignWorks.
The first to offer a fully integrated Lightning connector for your iPhone, the Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back headphones deliver superb sound quality for all the music on your iOS devices. This superior performance for both your music and voice calls is possible thanks to the headphone amplifier and 28-bit DAC built into the Lightning cable. Plus you continue to get the benefits of the special planar magnetic driver derived from Audeze's top-of-the-line LCD Series headphones.
The EL-8 model gives you a lifelike listening experience with an extended frequency response that opens up a new breadth of sound. Its driver is four times larger than most other headphones and gives excellent bass response along with extremely low distortion. To match the EL-8's impressive audio, its industrial design is by BMW’s DesignWorks. And durable aluminum construction ensures that you'll have lasting enjoyment.
By using a planar magnetic driver instead of a cone-type speaker, the EL-8 reportedly offers exceptional transient response and extended bass—virtually flat to 25Hz—along with the lowest Total Harmonic Distortion.
Highlights: ● Lightning cable with included DAC and headphone amplifier ● Planar magnetic driver for better sound quality ● Extremely wide frequency response; superior transient response ● Industrial design by BMW DesignWorks ● Aluminum construction ● Folds flat for travel ● Made in the USA
In the Box: ● Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back Headphones ● Lightning cable with headphone amp and DAC ● Standard audio cable for use with non-Apple devices ● 3.5mm to 0.25 in. plug adapter

The audeze lcd line is fairly well known in the audiophile community. Looking at the specs, the low impedance can easily be driven by something like an iphone.
If anyone is paying more than $400 on a headphone without using it with decent amps, you are wasting money. Not bashing on iPhone since I love my iPhone. But if you want to get an advice from audiophile, you can get better quality headphones than this for 400-500 and get a decent amps that total costs is less than this garbage.
In case of numeric headphones, which is the case here when using it with the lightning cable, the AMP and DAC are inside the headphone.
So here the fact that the DAC and AMP of the iPhone is not very good has no influence on the final audio quality. The headphone receive the music in numeric format and do the job of amplifying and finding in analytic, but the iPhone.
In a nutshell, here the final audio quality all depends on the headphone itself, and of course the quality of the numeric audio file (prefer lossless file format in that case).
When was the last time you charged your phone while listening to music....never! BTW it comes with a "Standard audio cable for use with non-Apple devices" which also means you can use it on your iPhone if it needs to charge...
After watching a news that a woman's head got fried after sleeping while plugging headphones to your iphone and charging at the same time, I try to avoid contacting any device that is charging. You should be careful too
