Apple has provided KQED with a sneak peak at Apple Campus 2. The company's new campus in currently under construction and should be complete by the end of 2016.

Reporter Amy Standen offers a few tidbits about the massive construction project.

"It's a building that will supply most of its own energy or at least much of its own energy on site. It's a building that will be pulling in recycled water from the county and using it to flush toilets and of course for landscaping. That's very progressive from a water efficiency standpoint."

"What they inherited was several older buildings all of which, according to Apple, were broken down, deconstructed, and the material from those buildings was recycled into new building material to build the new campus."

"The building itself is largely self contained. Apple employees will have very little reason to leave the building and there are some people who say why not put this in the middle of San Jose, revitalize the downtown somewhere. Put it in a place where it will have benefits for the community." And what does Apple say to that? "Apple says we love the town of Cupertino and we are loyal to it. We need a space that fosters collaboration and innovation. They say you wouldn't expect NASA to put its headquarters in the middle of downtown San Francisco."

Their love and loyalty for location is a mere loyal gesture via taxes and other benefits of having Apple in your backyard.
