The jury has reached a verdict in the Apple vs. Samsung case ruling that Samsung infringed on two of Apple's patents, awarding Apple $119.6 million in damages, reports Re/code.
The jury found all accused Samsung phones infringed on the first patent at issue, the ’647 quick links patent, but ruled various phones did not infringe on two others. For one other it ruled some Samsung products infringe, while others did not. Four a fifth patent, the judge had ruled that Samsung’s products infringe on the Apple patent and the jury determined that infringement was willful.
Apple had been asking for $2.2 billion in damages. The jury heard more than 50 hours of testimony and took three full days to reach a verdict.
“We are grateful to the jury and the court for their service,” Apple told Re/code. “Today’s ruling reinforces what courts around the world have already found: That Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products. We are fighting to defend the hard work that goes into beloved products like the iPhone, which our employees devote their lives to designing and delivering for our customers.”
The judge has sent a pretty clear message to Apple in this case. It likely cost Apple more to fight this case than they won. The message here (and I'm sure they heard it) is we've had enough of this. Let's move on now.
"What about: The Jury ruled that Apple infringed on Samsung's '449 patent related to Apple's FaceTime video chat application." So it was eye for an eye? It happened in the same trial, why doesn't iClarified report this?
During closing arguments in the second Apple vs Samsung patent trial, Samsung’s lawyers repeated its claims that it doesn’t “owe Apple a nickel,” and suggested that “they’ll be dancing in the streets of Cupertino if you give them $100 million” of the $2.2B Apple is claiming.
well I guess let the dancing in the streets of Cupertino begin.pwahahahahah and once again the human race wins against samsung
Suing someone for intellectual property infringement isn't being a bully. They're protecting themselves from bullies that steal and can't do any work themselves. And if apples a bully for suing what is Samsung for suing apple and other companies. I'd consider Samsung more of a bully for stealing product designs and other ideas from companies that worked hard to develop them. Apple and Dyson just to name a few.
Apple will only win in american courts... of course why not :)
Samsung will win in Korean courts.
So this is just the same crap that america is well known for... making money out of another country's resources.
Flame On :)
*copies apples features again* *mocks apple for not doing android crap* *gets sued* and the cycle repeats yearly and trolls can't stand it! they just want to fight back but samshit can't do a damn. Back to counting samsheeps for a blushing jealousy ranting army you zombie rotten herds.
Only lawyers won. 120 out of 2 billion. I bet it's a failure in apples eyes. Sure makes samsung look bad but also makes apple look bad exposing internal documents showing apple is worried about samsung. Anyway. At this point frivolous.
also, wanted to add that samsung also won on an infringement in this case. it's not a clear win for either. it's just a mixed results ending. apple, don't be afraid of copying. i want a better iPhone. samsung will have a field day when apple releases their bigger screens. but pay no mind, just give us the consumers what we want. i also want the waterproof(resistant) feature in my next iPhone.
Apple asked for 2 billion and got waaaaay less than that. But Apple really got what Apple intended to do....to hurt the Samsung name. By winning this case many will now believe that Samsung rips people off. Regardless of how frivolous or petty the infringement was. Thats kinda the point too behind the scenes im sure
Tony, Apple's CPUs still trash Samsung's even if it's dual core. It's not just about core numbers. It's how well the OS is optimised to use it. Samsung S4 and S5 needs those CPUs otherwise they will be so slow. It's not really Samsung's fault. It's because of Android.
Apple spent more on legal fees last year than R&D. Likely much more on this case alone than $119M. Samsung got toasted for six hours of revenue? LOL. Apple got toasted as did all consumers.
