Microsoft Officially Ends Support for Windows XP

Posted April 8, 2014 at 4:58pm by iClarified
Microsoft officially announced that it has finally ended support for the Windows XP operating system today.

Here's the official announcement:

---
Microsoft provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But the time came for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences.

As a result, technical assistance for Windows XP is no longer available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft has also stopped providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP. (If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time, but this does not mean that your PC is secure because Microsoft is no longer providing security updates to help protect your PC.)

If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Internet Explorer 8 is also no longer supported, so if your Windows XP PC is connected to the Internet and you use Internet Explorer 8 to surf the web, you might be exposing your PC to additional threats. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter more apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.
---

If you are still using Windows XP with Bootcamp we recommend you update to newer supported operating system. Microsoft and Best Buy are offering $100 trade-in offers for old devices running Windows XP.

Can't say I'm happy to see that the XP era officially ended, but not sad either. Windows XP was 'the best' OS for all old school Windows-users. It was always a monster for the rest of us! My primary OS was Mac OS, and due to the nature of my work, I was always involved with Windows and Linux. The confusion, pain and aggravation caused by XP is not comparable to ANY software nightmare that I had ever encountered in my 30 years of computer usage. It was the only OS that you loved SO much to hate! And yes, XP is 'better' than Vista and W8!

XP was the 2nd best windows I ever used, 7 is the best, but if Microsoft ever gave this one up I won't have any win8 anything from them. I would give up using them.

Poor XP. Was and still is the most widely used OS in the workplace. You will definitely be missed by millions. RIP Windows XP 2002-2014

Couldn't agree more. I love windows xp and I still have it as my virtual. I don't think microsoft could make one better than xp.

Totally agree, why come a long way to improve windows then just Fck it up with 8. Believe me I used it once and I am never using it again. Trackpad features really navigated like it had a mind of it's own. God awful control
