DisplayMate has conducted its in-depth analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S5 display and declared it the 'best performing smartphone display' they've ever tested.
Based on our extensive Lab tests and measurements, the Galaxy S5 is the Best performing Smartphone display that we have ever tested. It has a long list of new records for best Smartphone display performance including: Highest Brightness, Lowest Reflectance, Highest Color Accuracy, Infinite Contrast Ratio, Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light, and smallest Brightness Variation with Viewing Angle. The Galaxy S5 has raised the bar for top display performance up by another notch – an impressive achievement for OLED technology!
The Galaxy S5 has the same 2K 1920x1080 Full HD resolution with 432 ppi as the Galaxy S4. Rather than increasing resolution with its new flagship device, Samsung concentrated on improving the Maximum Brightness, Screen Reflectance, performance in High Ambient Light, Absolute Color Accuracy, Viewing Angles, display power efficiency, and running time on battery.
With Apple widely rumored to be releasing new larger iPhones this year, the company will likely need to increase the resolution of its devices to remain competitive. Just recently, Japan Display announced the development of a 5.5-inch-wide Quad HD (WQHD) display with a resolution of 1440x2560 which might be a candidate for the iPhone.
