A Belmont man was arrested on Saturday for attempting to steal copper pipes and wiring from the former HP site where Apple will be building Apple Campus 2, reports CBS Local.

Glenn Cartwright, 56, was booked on Saturday into the Santa Clara County Main Jail following his arrest on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said. Cartwright was later released on $11,000 bail, Stenderup said.

Security guards on site noticed that previously secured gate to the property had been opened at around 9:30pm on Saturday. They alerted police, believing that a burglary was in progress.

The Sheriff's department called in a helicopter and the Santa Clara K-9 unit to search for the suspect. A police dog located Cartwright hiding in the bushes and after the suspect refused to surrender, the dog was released, biting him before his arrest.

Deputies found copper tubing and wiring that had been removed from the old buildings. “It was piled up in a way that he was going to move it to a car or something,” Stenderup said.

Cartwright was taken to the hospital to be treated for the dog bit, then booked.

Apple is planning to demolish the HP buildings to build its new spaceship campus. More details on that can be found here.

Spelling is wrong in the title. You mean to say "Stealing", not "Steeling".
