BlackBerry submitted BBM for iOS to Apple for review two weeks ago but is still waiting for App Store approval, according to Alex Kinsella, Senior Strategic Account Manager at BlackBerry.
Earlier today, Kinsella tweeted:
Just in case we forgot to mention, BBM for iPhone was submitted for review 2 wks ago. #waiting #BBM4ALL
It's unclear why Apple has delayed approving the BBM app. Current approval times are at about 4 days, according to Shiny Development's tracker.
Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS to be informed as soon as the app is available. In the meanwhile, check out the BBM for iOS user manual here.
From a personal and professional point if view I hope that Apple does not accept the BBM app.
Blackberry Mobiles are the only devices I know that cannot send and receive emails out of the box without a data plan or a licence per device - BES 10.
They were World leaders but their recent bad decision making when trying to compete with Apple/Android/Windows mobile operating systems just beggars belief.
Not being able to receive emails on a smartphone without a data plan.
What a joke.
It's unclear? Blackberry was one of the largest smartphone makers in the world before the iPhone and Android. Apple is reviewing it carefully, and that is a favour to blackberry so they don't have a bltoched up launch of something that made them very successful with their own devices. The launch will mean a lot for Apple too.
"Apple doesn't like competition".
If I recall well from Steve Jobs' keynotes. He knew where to team up and where to draw the line.
Also, look into: What's App, Facebook Messenger, and other messaging apps... All there. I think Apple's genius is knowing where a technology is leading and going there rather than just blocking it off, or shutting it up.
"if I was Apple, I'd rather BBM have a botched launch"
That could look really bad for Apple my friend... really bad.
Blackberry could say: "Apple's App review process was unsuccessful in helping us launch an app on their platform" You can only imagine the motives being interpreted by others on why Apple didn't help them release a good app. For all we know, Apple could be in talks with Blackberry about purchasing them!
