Apple has started performing in-store glass repairs for iPhone 5 owners at a cost of $149, according to customer reports.
MacRumors heard from a tipster this morning that the new repair policy had been implemented and the changes have since been confirmed in a forum post from iPhone repair site Quick iFix. The repairs are available for cracked displays as well as screens that experience multitouch issues.
Notably, the $149 price on a glass repair is considered competitive, forcing Quick iFix to drop its price from $174.99 to $139.99.
Apple is expected to offer in-store repair for issues with cameras, sleep/wake buttons, and logic boards beginning in July.
$149 is actually the best price around. Probably the best value as well, because it will be an original complete assembly. Not a partial rebuild that most repair shops are using.
Are you aware that this article is about the iPhone 5, right? The iPhone 5 is $649 - $849 retail in the United States. $149 to replace the entire front screen assembly is a bargain. Even a second hand iPhone 5 will still set you back at least $400-$500 and then you'll still have to pay to get it unlocked.
