Judge Lucy Koh has cut $440 million from Apple's $1.05 billion verdict over Samsung, according to Federal Courts reporter Vanessa Blum.
Koh knocks out more than 40 percent of jury's $1.05 billion damages award for Apple. Orders new damages trial on roughly $440 million.
Seems like Apple's mega trial win over Samsung is getting chipped away bit by bit. #iCourt.
Last month, Judge Koh ruled that Samsung did not willfully infringe on Apple's patents; however, did not grant the company a new trial as it had requested.
We'll post more information as it becomes available...
Update: Bloomberg reports that Koh said Samsung deserves a new trial on infringement claims over its Galaxy Prevail and other smartphones. Koh rejected Apple’s request to enhance the jury’s award, saying the amount Samsung owed was heavily disputed and the jury wasn’t bound to accept either side’s damages estimate.
“It is not the proper role of the court to second-guess the jury’s factual determination as to the proper amount of compensation,” Koh said.
I think apple is trying briding the jurys extra money to convince the jurys to make apple win the court by increasing the money which also pays more for jury.
