Apple's Weather app is failing to update properly over AT&T's mobile data network, according to numerous user reports. This issue reportedly prevents current weather conditions from being shown and prevents the addition of new cities for tracking. However, when on Wi-Fi, the app works as expected.
Oliver, an iClarified user, explains the issue, "With cellular data ONLY the IOS 6 the weather app will not update. The local weather section will update randomly. Other cities will NOT update and when trying to add a new city the app won't find any matching cities. I tried that on family members iPhones and co-workers iPhones (4, 4S and 5) all on ATT. iPhones on other carriers did not have any problems."
Users on other forums are experiencing the same problem...
Posting on an Apple's Discussion Boards thread (2) about the issue, K9Lover said, "Just purchased new iPhone 5 today...it is running ios 6.0.2 (the recent software update that was issued only for iPhone 5 users and iPad minis)... Same exact problem exists on the NEW iPhone 5. Native iPhone weather app will not update over the 4G LTE network. It will only update (or let you ADD a city) over WiFi."
Another thread on MacRumors has users reporting the same difficulties and we've also verified the issue with our own devices.
Apple Customer Support is said to have confirmed the problem and passed it to their engineering team for investigation.

Weather for Johannesburg, Krugersdorp, Roodekrans in Gauteng in South Africa do not update like it is supposed to. The to picture do not change and the temp stays the say day in and out
Update: As of this afternoon, the weather app problems I've been dealing with, which I thought were fixed, are back. This issue seems to be intermittent at best.
Called apple care today for another problem, while they were on the phone asked about this weather app problem. They put me on hold for 10 minutes came back with could 't find any one complaining about this! Told me to restore and update my software! BIG FN HELP THEY WERE!! Also why can't i post this from my phone again will have to send from my imac! FN TECHNOLOGY !!
Well, still doesn't work for me.
AT&T iPhone 4S 6.0.1
Oh and this weather app is pretty damn accurate in my experience, getting another app is NOT a fix, a fix would be someone at AT&T taking this crap seriously and actually fixing whatever is blocking this app, yes they can and DO block certain things on the web, kinda like FaceTime.
Update: As of this morning, the weather app problems I've been dealing with for the past few days seem to no longer exist. Upgrading the OS will not fix the issue.
Update:
I've been having this problem up until now.
I just updated my iphone 5 to iOS 6.0.2 (over LTE)
And the weather problems no longer exist. I can add new cities, and all cities load regularly.
Yahoo weather on the iPhone is very convenient to use, but this is as far as it goes ,,,
The connectivity issue is only one minor problem this app has, its main weakness is in its accuracy.
U should use other weather app not only because the app don’t updates, but because other leading apps are, in average, more accurate.
My personal recommendation would b to use Nooly Micro Weather; it’s a super accurate weather app that predicts the minute rain starts!
This super localized app, predicts the exact time light rain turns to thunderstorm for every 0.4 square miles.
It’s amazing to see how the app predicts that light snow will fall in ur backyard in 25 minutes, and 30 minutes latter you look out the window to see that it is actually snowing as the Nooly app said it will.
IPhone 5 and this is in no way a rumor - Not at all. Seems there are ATT customers, a lot actually including me, cannot add any new locations, or have their existing locations updated.
The only thing that seems to work is the weather for the current area I've been GPS located at. My phone has been restarted (Center Lock) and still will not return any results or update the weather.
noticed this on the wife's 4s updating from 5.01 to 6.01 can't add cities on hers! my 4 on 5.1.1 update failures on weather only! this was about 3 weeks ago and still pissing me off! also pissed that i couldn't add this comment on my iphone it wouldn't submit!!!!
My experience with an iPhone5 on iOS 6.1 beta 4 is not quite so clear cut. It works fine on WiFi; on ATT LTE it is not at all consistent. It almost always works with larger cities. On smaller cities and towns, it works sometimes not others with no apparent pattern. Likewise, for the local weather, it works sometimes and not others. Not uncommonly, it works on local weather, but not on the same town that it considers local, and vice versa. The only consistent behavior is that I can never add a location on LTE. Very strange.
