How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4 Using RedSn0w (Windows) [6.0]

Posted October 14, 2012 at 10:50am by iClarified
These are instructions on how to perform a tethered jailbreak of your iPhone 4 on iOS 6 using RedSn0w for Windows.

A tethered jailbreak means you will need to connect your device to the computer each time you reboot.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download the latest version of RedSn0w from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the 6.0 firmware from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. (Note: you do not need to download the 6.0 firmware if you are already on iOS 6.0)

Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

When trying to jailbreak my iPhone 4 I get the error code Missing keys.plist data for this build: I do not know what the means.... Can you help?
raj singh
raj singh - January 2, 2013 at 7:00pm
it means you are downgrading from 6.0.1 which atm is not supported by redsnow. or it could also mean that when in dfu mode when you release power button, keep holding the home button for another 9 seconds even when redsnow detects phone in dfu, 1st reason is very likely

This is an error from softwares on Cydia outdated because not suported on ios 6.01, just ignore this error, and use use IPSW 6.0 instead 6.01 it's not problem if you iPhone 4 is on IOS 6.01 because is note used all IOS OS to JAILBREAK since is THETHERED is used just bootsector to JAILBREAK with this THETHERED JAILBREAK, and this error you seens is because you is Browsing: IPSW 6.01, change to IPSW 6.0 and this error not showes anymore. If error persist Just check if you follow correctly the DFU mode and before BOOT look if CYDIA is instaled, is was, just ignore and use you iPhone 4.

Every time you boot , you musty first select IPSW path with select IPSW and then use "Just Boot" option. It is certainly going to help you out with missing .plist error. Also always remember to run redsnow as administrator only.

Just wondering if a untethered J.B. is being worked on? Or was it released yet?
Big B
Big B - December 20, 2012 at 5:55am
So in going from 5.1.1 to 6.0, you essentially have to wipe your phone out and do a factory restore using iOS 6 as your restore firmware? Then jailbreaking is easy as it's like JB for the first time. But if you don't want to lose your contents, when you upgrade it will wipe out the JB, in so much as it pretty much overwrites the JB code with the original boot code again… assuming taking with it all references to the JB system/data partitions and file system tables? And this ultimately leaves your phone in a state of what, exactly? Is it like a hanging pointer or something or a wiped out FAT? The data is still there, just unreferenced? Could someone that understands this better than I do tell me more precisely what happens in the condition that you upgrade via iTunes to 6.0 without doing a restore of the firmware? (A literal upgrade, as if the phone were not JB). Will the upgrade crash with error, etc? There is quick inference of "wasted space" or "slack space" that would result from not doing an actual RESTORE- explanation? Thanks!

That's exactly right! Your cydia/installous downloads are just sitting there and taking up space when you upgrade. Once you install the corresponding app, the come back magically.
