Technical specifications for the new iPhone 5 reveal that there are three versions of the device, two GSM versions with differing LTE Bands, and one CDMA version.

Here's the details:

GSM model A1428*:
● UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz);
● LTE (Bands 4 and 17)

CDMA model A1429*:
● CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz);
● LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)

GSM model A1429*:
● UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz);
● LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)

This means your choice of carrier will be important as switching between certain ones may not be possible.

Apparently it is not a world phone like its predecessor. Wasn't it suppose to be better then the 4S.

I verified with Apple Support, They told me it is also a world phone. only thing is it will be locked with the carrier and you can stay in roaming or have them unlock it during you international travel.

T mobile will work fine with iphone5 T-Mobile USA owns licenses to operate a 1900 MHz GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) PCS (Personal Communications Service) digital cellular network and a 1700 MHz/2100 MHz UMTS AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) digital cellular network that cover areas of the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Well apple has enough money to stay in business many years to come lol.. Clearly.. Apple is running out of ideas.. At least samsung upgrades their hardware crazy while not care about design.. Now iphone is just regular smart phone with decent design and decent hardware..

So I'm guessing all those claims about how many versions of 4G were meaningless, that they're split between several different phones, and that any given phone may or may not work in any particular country. While I like the iPhone 5, this is REALLY depressing news, as I was hoping they'd at least do a better job at 4G than Samsung did.

I see basebands for TMobile.

Sorry, T-mobile's 3G and HSPDA+ which they call 4G runs at 1700 MHz and and 2100 MHz on their AWS network. The iPhone 5 supports neither their 1700 Mhz frequency nor their AWS network. Using an unlocked iPhone on T-mobile is still only going to be very slow EDGE speed under GSM.

Is it just me or does the new phone seem kinda meh, and kinda of a "goofy" form factor. it just looks too tall to me, and now we're stuck with it for 2 years.

You guys are comparing the sales of a new to market phone (GS3) to a phone that's been out for a year (4S)... Wow lol Let's see who sells more when the iPhone 5 comes out shall we? ;)

Let's watch, iPhone 5 is much more beautiful than those copycat products. It is getting very good first hands-on review. Samsuck should be running scared instead.

But samsung are not running scared.. still the best selling smartphone even with apple's attempt to ban them .. people are wising up these days, and paying a shit load of money for basically a facelift just dont cut it any more, I mean get real .. this is the best design they could come up with !!!!!
Kev
Kev - September 12, 2012 at 11:22pm
Hey if apple want to try catch up with the huge range of smartphones that samsung have got that allow them to sell 50.5 million .. then they have that right .. but if all they can produce since the last iPhone is this little piece of un inovated design and copying .. then thats up to them .. they just dont have the vision that samsung have that people want choice .. not to be told what to buy .. and thus limiting your sales when your competitors are growing .. and your last resort is to try ban them ... get real fanboy .. this is BIG business .. and Apple are loosing

It happens to any best seller android during iphone launch. Of course Samsung wants to keep outselling iPhone no matter what after the lawsuit loss. Cheap tactics.
Kev
Kev - September 13, 2012 at 12:22am
Well to outsell ones rival is not a cheap tactic .. if the way they can do that at this launch is to drop the price of their product .. then thats what they do .. its a tried and tested means in many industries .. keep your competion at bay by giving a finacial incentive .. in this case a huge saving on what is a very good phone .. when the fan boys have spent their year long savings on the iphone 5 and the uproar will subside .. in i guess a couple of hours after this dissapointing launch .. prices will re-adjust .. its simple busness ... nothing more, By the way I didnt get a samsung GS3 just yet because I was waiting to be blown away (I think I remember a head of apple saying those words) by the iphone 5 .. actually its more like a light breeze ... samsung will have yet another customer tomorrow :).....

On the UK apple store they have it for sale sim free, £529, so how would this work?

It's really rather simple, you log onto the store or walk into the shop. Hand over large sums of cash and walk out the door with a sim free phone, or maybe wait for the delivery.
