Apple is now selling an unlocked SIM-free iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the United States.

“SIM-free” means your iPhone doesn’t ship with a carrier SIM card. The SIM-free iPhone sold on apple.com and at the Apple Store is unlocked. That means you’re free to use a SIM card from any carrier that provides service for iPhone.

The SIM-free model starts at $649 for the iPhone 7 and $769 for the iPhone 7 Plus.

Here in South-Africa we've always had factory unlocked iPhones.. even from the very first iPhone model. If Apple had carrier-locked iPhones here, no one would have bought them. Nonetheless, this is right move for Apple on the US.

Yes, you're right. My apologies. Should have read: From the very first iPhone available in South-Africa ;-)

Not stupid enough to buy their unlocked phone when I can do it for free with servers even eBay remotely.

What stupid part is there? The title is basically saying that an unlocked iPhone 7 is being sold in the U.S., not JUST at an Apple Store. Talk about not stupid enough, except it's someone this time, not something.

Does that mean I can buy an iPhone from the US and put any UK sim in the phone? Or would it get locked to the first sim I put inside? Is it truly unlocked? Would save alot of money..

if it is sold by Apple as Unlock Sim-Free, yes u can put in any SIM card anywhere and it should work with and carrier but if it is sold by a carrier and says that is unlock, don't believe everything they say 'cause it can be locked until u argue with them!

Best Buy was selling the iPhone Unlocked Sim-Free since a month ago but over priced, I wonder if they are gonna still selling it over price since Apple started selling it without contracts!!!

Except with a second and complete set stereo speakers, thinner, expanded antenna range with the line going across removed, bigger camera with slightly less protruding lens, force home button, brighter and best performing display with color gamut, longer battery life, IP67 water resistant rating, a10 fusion chip, bigger battery, bigger camera, more finish options to choose from, and more flash LED.
