Apple is Unlikely to Include Noise-Cancelling Headphones With the iPhone 7 [Report]

Apple is unlikely to include its rumored noise-cancelling headphones with the iPhone 7, according to a Barclays analyst note relayed by Business Insider.

It's widely been rumored that Apple plans to ditch the traditional headphones jack on its upcoming smartphone and instead allow users to connect headphones using the Lightning port. Additionally, the company is said to be working on a special noise-cancelling microphone system which will enable clearer phone calls and communication with Siri.

Analysts Blayne Curtis and Christopher Hemmelgarn say Apple will include a pair of Lightning headphones with the iPhone 7 but won't purchase Cirrus' noise-cancelling technology for in-box headphones until the iPhone 7S.

We still believe there is potential for AAPL to add ANC in the IP7S but believe AAPL is including just the digital headphone in the IP7 this year. We do believe there are aftermarket AAPL and Android opportunities this year, and we have included only 7.5M units in FY17 as those sales. Recent speculation surrounding the elimination of the headphone jack in the IP7 is consistent with this move as AAPL will need to provide a digital headset inbox but likely was not willing to spend the extra cost for the ANC functionality.

It's believed that Cirrus could supply Apple with a codec that would enable the use of the Lightning connector for headphones; as well as, a codec for active-noise-cancelling.

Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 7 this fall. Besides the lack of a headphones jack, the device is said to ditch some of its antenna bands. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

The real argument is "Cars will run with engines that were made in the 90s" because apple still uses headphones and cars still not blocked and no noise cancellation means there's still headphones to listen to.

These type of headphones have been around for 10 years or more. Sure, and Sony have had these headphones for over 10 years. Most likely have royaltys why they wont do it. Its not like the phone only cost enough already to account for the royaltys. The fact they remove the jack , many people with pissed because alot of cars dont have Bluetooth , and they plug the phone in through the headphone jack.

It's because apple focuses on bringing sound quality and not sound proofing the headphones, but despite this, Ther eis going to be a lightning to headphone jack and/or something to plug into lightning to bring the jack and lightning charger to the iPhone put to plug into the port. In fact, were in 2016 where many cars have tpuchscreen controls which also means Bluetooth to display stuff from the phone. Who would hold on to old cars anymore?

Seems to me Apple wants you to use their proprietary headphone units only. A greedy move if you asked me. Let's hope they don't remove the headphone jack.

You can just pair Bluetooth headphones yourself.

They want to make the phone thinner and that jack is a limiting factor..and that leaves room for a second speaker. They're going to supply a plug adapter so that you can still use your earbuds..probably won't make much diff in practical use..you'll probably leave the adapter on the earbuds plug and it probably won't make it any harder to tote them. Frankly I'd rather have another speaker...Android phones have had stereo speakers for years and it's time for Apple to finally catch up.

Typical deliberately holding back on features to make people want the S model the next year.

Tell that to a new iPhone with a new change. Not to mention 7 is coming with real wireless charging. By real I mean actually being made to work like wifi, but with charging.

I usually upgrade the ones without the "S" because new features released in the "S" are just beta features which will be refined in the next release without the "S". For example when they first released the finger print sensor in the iPhone 5s, it was then refined and fine tuned in iPhone 6. Now they released the force touch, it will be refined next iPhone 7.

Im fine without the audio jack unless they will put a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) in their iPhones. Audiophiles will rejoice if they bring back the Wolfson DAC chips from the old iPods to the iPhones. I will definitely upgrade if they have it. The best sound comes out from the lightning port and not on stereo jack ports. Notice all the iPhone dock speakers use the lightning port as the sound source.

Hope it don't happen where they take away the headphone jack. That's how they failed with the first iPhone and corrected themselves with the 3G

If apple really wants me to buy an iPhone without a headphone jack then it better be the most boss iPhone ever made with the best specs ever in a smartphone and best camera and best display with front speakers (I've wanted this for a while since the nexus 6 was released and I got to play with it) I mean it better be hands down the best iPhone in the world for me to go and get rid of my 3.5 mm headphone accessories and replace them all with Bluetooth ones. Like seriously my iPhone 6S was a huge disappointment after a week of me purchasing it I couldn't help but think to my self "that's it?"

Of course that's it! Everything that has changed about the iPhone from most things that changed from the 6 and the 6s is a major step. Don't believe me! The phrase "the only thing that changed is everything" inside out!

I love my 6s. It is awesome in every way. I upgrade from 4s and never looked back. I also love my headphones. So loosing the 3.5 jack would be a real bummer. At that point i think i would hold onto my 6s until it was totally dead and i had no choice but to change.
